First time making a Reddit post sorry for any mistakes English is my third language

Important context: my brother is a legal adult (18+) (he/him) and I am a teen (they/them)

​

This happened at my dad's house which is not a place where I feel safe and I kinda always have my guard up so I tend to always stay with my older brother.

​

Into the actual story.

​

Last summer I discovered a YouTuber with a small following and quickly made friends with some other fans of him. We made a private discord just for us and got the YouTuber to also make one for his Chanel.

In that YouTubers community I made a dumb typo which turned into a meme. I thought it was funny so I showed my older brother because why not? I showed him the highlight the YouTuber made and his channel and told him about the discord we had kind of bullied him into making (no YouTubers were harmed in the making of the discord).

A few weeks later I'm discussing nail polishes in the discord with my friends and call a nail polish 'gay' because it lwk was gay and as a trans and gay person you kinda just do that. Then a guy that I had never seen in the server before asked me why I thought the nail polish was gay. I said "Idk it just kinda is it's the *vibe"* i thought it was kinda funny. I don't remember if he said anything more after that but in me and my friends private server my friend mentioned that guys status on discord (screenshots provided) it was a homophobic quote from the bible!

Me and my friends kinda freak out over it before I checked the guys account. It was recent, there was a homophobic quote from the big book and he was mutual with my brother on discord.

I am flabbergasted because I never pictured my brother being friends with homophobic or just bigoted people. I go into his room and show him the account and ask him if he knows who that is. He tells me yes and I kinda laugh about it. (because finding bigots in the wild is kinda funny)

Later I get a really long message from my brother about how he doesn't like to lie and said the guy was one of hold alt accounts, that smaller servers are most likely to not be good ones and that this account was going to leave the server and he was going to join with his main one.

I felt immensely betrayed. I trust my older brother with my whole heart and him doing this to me while we're at my dad's house made it even worse. He knows I'm trans and gay but not out to anyone in my family. I didn't talk to him for almost a week and still feel mad about it to this day almost a year later am I overreacting?

I truly js make whatever digital, physical, cosplay you name it. This is also like a very small part of everything I've done but I hope y'all like it:D
