ideas for student jobs?

hi all,

I'm moving from Ontario to Vancouver for school in the fall. I'll be 31 & coming with a little savings that will last me a while, but finding a part time job is a priority for me.

I have like 10 years of working experience in various fields (hotels, retail, aviation), but it seems like that does not mean much nowadays. The last time I interviewed for a job was in 2018, so it was a completely different world back then. Any one have any ideas for student-friendly jobs?

Thanks!!

feeling a little lost

hi everyone

so I applied for a few nursing programs. I was not able to get into a BSN program here in ON, but I got into one in a very expensive city in another province. I also got into two PN programs here in ON.

My plan was to get a job transfer to other province and work while attending school. Previously, transfers were almost guaranteed, but this might not be possible for me at the moment. There has been a little structural changes in my company and transfers are harder to get now.

So my choices are: quit work and do the BSN (and take a gamble on finding a job there) OR do the PN program here & keep my job.

I'm 31 so I feel time is not on my side. Due to my previous education, I can maybe get 3-4 semesters of OSAP so it won't cover me completely for a 9 semester BSN. My ultimate goal is to become an RN, which I could do in 3 years if I take the BSN program.

Does anyone have any advice?

My friend is doing the cardiac sonography program at pharma-medical college. Is anyone familiar with them? It seems super expensive but the program has no breaks and you hit the job market sooner than a public college. On paper it looks like they are accredited with the right regulatory bodies. But how do employers view these diplomas?

I'm about to quit my job and go into nursing school this fall. I was certain it's the best option for me due to job security and pay, but now I'm getting worried. Many new grad nurses are having a hard time getting work in the GTA and other cities. Layoffs in healthcare are happening in Ontario at the moment.

Nursing and health care in general used to be considered a safe bet. Now it seems like it might no longer be the case. Lost of people from other industries are going into health care because the private sector is obsessed with shoving AI into literally everything. White collar jobs are becoming unattainable. People who left healthcare also have the option of coming back if they reactivate their license, right? Also, I've been noticing many of my older colleagues putting off retirement because they're supporting elderly parents or unemployed adult children or both..

My sister works for a GTA hospital part time. Every time a full time position opens up it is snapped up by a more senior nurse. Her last few shifts they've been calling to see if she wants to move her shift to another day, because they're fully staffed on that day.

I can't imagine a sustainable future where everything works out with the way things are headed right now.

I certainly didn't want any of this crap in my lifetime.
