As a 2 year exp dev watching this CBSE re evaluation portal meltdown is physically painful!!! The absolute state of our public tech infra :/

I've been working as a software developer for about two years now, and watching the absolute clown show that is the CBSE post-result/re-evaluation portal this week has me losing my mind. How the actual hell does an education board representing one of the largest student populations on earth miscalculate demand this badly?

Let’s talk about what is actually happening under the hood here because the technical incompetence is staggering.

This year, they pushed through "On-Screen Marking" (OSM)—digitizing every single answer sheet. We are talking about nearly 10 million answer books, roughly 200 million pages scanned as images. When the re-evaluation window opened, millions of stressed Class 10/12 students and parents swarmed the site.

Instead of offloading these massive static assets to a lightweight object storage/CDN bucket, their primary database clusters tried to serve raw, uncompressed files directly. The result? Total architectural gridlock.

  • Database locks and deadlocks everywhere.
  • The Captcha layer completely broke because the auth server timed out waiting for the deadlocked database, throwing "Invalid Token" loops at terrified teenagers.
  • Total state desynchronization on the payment gateway. Because the API lacked transactional atomicity, the UI was wildly fluctuating. There are literally students getting slapped with a Rs 69,000 billing glitch because the portal kept retrying timed-out bank connections without clearing the session state.

And the initial response from CBSE? "The portal is fine, check your internet connection." Are you kidding me? It took them days of public outcry to finally panic, admit they were getting smashed, and bring in teams from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur to clean up their trash code and database indexes.

This brings me to the absolute lack of accountability. In India, people will literal stop using an app if it charges a minor convenience fee. Money matters here down to the last 10 rupees. Forcing middle-class families to navigate a broken, glitched gateway that puts their life savings at risk just to see if their kid's paper was marked correctly is dystopian.

First, we had the massive NEET mess and paper leak trauma. Now, a complete infrastructure and evaluation collapse for Class 10 and 12. What in the actual hell is Dharmendra Pradhan doing?

How has the Education Minister not been forced to resign yet? If an engineering lead oversaw back-to-back production failures that disrupted the lives of millions of stakeholders, they’d be fired before the daily standup. Yet, the guy presiding over total institutional collapse gets to sit comfortably while IIT professors are deployed as a last-minute clean-up crew for his ministry's utter lack of foresight.

It is high time we demand real accountability and ask for Pradhan's resignation. Our students cannot be subjected to continuous psychological trauma just because the government treats scalable IT infrastructure and data planning like an afterthought.

End of rant. If any of you are dealing with this portal right now, do your payments at 4:00 AM when the database locks ease up, and clear your cache entirely to bypass the broken auth tokens.

Would people in Gujarat actually use a product for local civic complaints, or would this fail in real life?

i’ve been working on an idea around civic complaints in Gujarat and wanted honest feedback before I take it further.

The problem I keep noticing is that everyday issues like bad roads, drainage, garbage, streetlights, water problems, etc. often don’t go anywhere in a structured way. People may post about them, message someone they know, or complain locally, but a lot of issues still end up scattered or ignored.

So I started building something around that general problem: a way to make civic complaints more structured, trackable, and easier to escalate.

Before I go deeper, I want blunt feedback from people here:

  • Is this actually a real problem worth solving in Gujarat?
  • If you had a civic issue in your area, would you use something like this?
  • What would make you trust it?
  • What is the most likely reason people would ignore it?
  • Would this be genuinely useful, or would most people still prefer WhatsApp, local contacts, or social media?

Not promoting anything here, and I’m not sharing a link. I just want to know whether this sounds useful in real life or only sounds good in theory.
