CBPO Provisional Clearance / Enter on Duty Question

My CBPO application is currently only waiting on the background investigation. My background investigation was sent for adjudication back in June, and I’m still waiting for a final decision.

I have a clean background with no criminal history or other issues. When I originally applied last year in June, I selected the option indicating that I was interested in entering on duty under provisional clearance.

For anyone who has gone through the CBPO hiring process:

  1. Is there a way to request or ask for provisional clearance so I can enter on duty while my background investigation is still pending?

  2. If I selected the provisional clearance/EOD option when I applied, does CBP automatically consider me for it, or do I need to contact my case manager/recruiter and specifically request it?

Question

Hi everyone,

I currently have an active CBPO application, and yesterday I also submitted an application for Border Patrol Agent (BPA).

For those of you who have gone through both hiring processes, what parts will I have to complete again, and what should transfer over? So far, everything I’ve completed for my CBPO application has been done within the last year, so I’m hoping some of it is still valid.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience applying to both positions specially after already having an open cbpo application. What transferred over for you, and what did you have to redo?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

FBI Investigative Specialist (GS-7) pay steps, overtime, and advice starting out?

I’m looking into a federal Investigative Specialist role starting at GS-7 and had a few questions.

1.I know the GS level is basically set and non-negotiable, but how does it work with steps inside GS-7? Is it actually possible to start at something like GS-7 Step 3 or Step 4, or do most people just come in at Step 1 no matter what? (Non-negotiable)

  1. How is the pay progression going from GS-7 to GS-9 and
    GS-11 in reality?

  2. Do Investigative Specialists actually get much overtime, and how does that usually work?

  3. And for anyone who started at GS-7, what advice would you give someone coming in at that level?

Appreciate any real-world insight. / Feel free to answer any.

One time call?

What is the one-time call, and is it available for CBPO? I’m still waiting for the results of my medical examination, even though I had it last August. My background interview was conducted almost two months ago but still not checked off the list, and my poly is scheduled for early July.

How can I request the one-time call, and is it available for CBPO?

Question regarding Medical (Leg Surgery)

I had surgery on both legs last year for bilateral compartment syndrome. I’ve been fully medically cleared since December and have been working out and playing sports with no issues.

Medical requested a secondary review due to the surgeries. My surgeon and physical therapist submitted documentation confirming I’m fully recovered with no limitations. I submitted everything in February and am still waiting.

Has anyone been medically cleared after compartment syndrome surgery, or is this typically a disqualifier?

Looking for others’ experiences. Thanks

Compartment Syndrome Surgery – Medical Clearance Question

Hi everyone,

I had surgery on both legs last year for bilateral compartment syndrome. I was fully medically cleared in December and have been working out, playing sports, and staying active without any issues since then.

During my medical exam, I was asked to complete a secondary medical review because of the surgeries. My surgeon and physical therapist provided documentation confirming that I have fully recovered and have no limitations. I submitted everything in February and am still waiting for a decision.

For those with experience, is a history of compartment syndrome surgery typically a disqualifier if you’ve fully recovered and been medically cleared, or are my chances of getting cleared still good?

For CBPOs who did the 1–2 week EOD/pre-academy, how does it work if you live far from your duty station? The process made me to switch to a location that is not close to my house. Is there any lodging/support from CBP or is it all out of pocket? (Please share your experience and tips) Thank You
