Help choose between Otay or El Paso
How’s the quality of life out there? I have a wife and a 2 year old daughter. From NJ. Was this worth it? If not I’m open to trades talk.
I’m currently a caregiver and I have a lot of written warning at work due to medication error and not completing some training .
Can I be unsuitable because of that ? Anyone that passed suitability with some warning at work?

Medical I did so long ago....
Without getting to personal, my mother-in-law been battling cancer for years and I think she about to pass. She lives in Vietnam and I’m trying to be there for my wife and her family even if its just for a week. I’ve been waiting months for applications to even move, but still nothing. Does anyone know if I travel to another country will that disqualify me, or bring up any issues in the CBP Hiring process?
For GS-5 is starting salary actually $34,454 for people who live in California, Hawaii, etc? Or is this for the cheapest parts of the USA? Does anyone know what academy pay is?
Hi everyone, I recently received my final job offer as a CBPO and have a few questions. I'd really appreciate any insight from those who've been through the process or are currently working as CBPOs. Thanks in advance!
**1. FLETC written exams**
Are the written exams at FLETC (excluding physical fitness tests) primarily memorization-based? What's the best way to prepare?
**2. Otay Mesa vs. LAX**
For current CBPOs: how does Otay Mesa Port compare to LAX in terms of scheduling and overtime? I know Otay is 24/7 and has a lot of OT opportunities, but I've also heard LAX has plenty of overtime too. Beyond that, are there any long-term career advantages to starting at one port over the other? (Not trying to be picky — just want to make an informed decision!)
**3. Bilingual / language pay**
Does speaking a second language result in any additional pay or incentives as a CBPO? (Not trying to be greedy, just want to understand all the benefits available!)
**4. One-time call / port swap process**
I'm a bit confused about how this works. If I make a one-call request within 2 weeks of my Entry on Duty (EOD) date and my ports don't match, do I just get placed on a new list? And if I find someone willing to swap but they back out before it's finalized — what happens? Is there a backup plan, or am I stuck?

Has anybody had any luck with the current list? I've been refreshing non stop since yesterday at noon, and the only thing that popped this afternoon was Anchorage.
I don't see anything for GS-5 only 9 and 7. How do I know what I am?
I have an AA in communications no bachelor degree. Been working since age 15 part-time, been working full-time for 5 months. Have 3 month experience in a Law Enforcement Academy (left due to injury). I've had maybe 8 jobs from age 15 to age 23 just because I've been trying different jobs (retail, sales, fast food, security, cashier, serving, etc).
Okay quick question I failed the step test and I know I have to retest all over again. How long does it take for them to reach back out to reschedule? I read you have to take the second test within 6 weeks of you failing and if that’s the case it’s coming up and I need to be on it.
I live near FLETC and was curious if we get federal holidays off during the academy. Thank you
Finally did the big test on Monday in Tucson. Got the email today, I passed!
