With Long Exposure shots, even old iPhones can do long exposures

I’ve left the shutter speed in the frame to show what the original photo was taken as

I know the pixel 8 is getting long in the tooth, and not upgrading yearly doesn’t mean holding on to a 3 year old phone.

But it’s always a pleasant surprise when old phones can give more than what you think they can, simply with a bit more patience and love.

I have always had a pixel as my secondary phone (apart from a short but passionate stint with Pocco), and I have always been atleast 2-3 generations behind. My logic is that as a secondary phone the phone needs to function reasonably, but I cannot expect the world when paying under €300.

And yet every time I am drawn to the humble capabilities of my pixel. As an example my main phone currently is an iPhone, and I am a very avid phone photographer. And yet quite often I take out my little pixel 8 to snap everyday shots, not for any qualitative superiority but simply for the experience and the perceived challenge of getting a good photo with old hardware.

And as you can see, the photos I come away with are pretty decent!

Of course, if google decided to send me a pixel tomorrow for my photography page I would be the first to admit newer is better, but until such time I will continue to shout from the rooftops that old phones can be fun in their own way!

My first big boy watch! I know the regular speedmaster is the most loved, but I never liked its monochrome scheme. I used to think reverse panda speedmasters would cost an arm and a leg, but lo and behold « budget » options do exist.

Also a strap monster! From bracelet to yellow NATO to this brown leather strap from Temu. The weird strap size of 18mm also doesn’t seem as dainty as I initially thought it would, matching the proportions of the watch and my wrist nicely.

My recent trip to SF, where I decided to break from my standard practice and only take a small point and shoot as my film camera (I had digital and phone too). Very pleased with the results, even if the shooting experience was a bit less romantic.
