For serious mixing & mastering — do you leave Bitwig for Pro Tools, Cubase, or Reaper?

One specific pain point: Bitwig still doesn’t support Melodyne’s ARA integration, so detailed vocal editing (pitch, timing, formants) is pretty limited compared to DAWs with full ARA support. That’s a big part of why I’m considering moving to another DAW for the mix/master stage.

Do you stay fully in Bitwig, or export stems and finish the mix/master in something like Pro Tools, Cubase, or Reaper? If you do switch, I’d love to hear:

**•**What pushed you toward that DAW for mixing/mastering — plugin ecosystem, ARA support, metering tools, industry standard, stability, or something else?

**•**How do you handle the handoff (bounced stems, OMF/AAF, etc.)?

**•**Any tips for staying efficient when working across two DAWs?

Genuinely curious about real-world workflows, not just opinions. Thanks in advance!

Which MIDI controller works best for live clip and scene control in Bitwig?

I’m putting together my first proper Bitwig live set and would really appreciate hearing from people who have used it on stage.

The main things I need the controller to handle are:

recording into empty clip slots and overdubbing
launching and stopping individual clips
launching scenes
stopping tracks or scenes cleanly
clearly showing what is playing, queued or recording

I’m less concerned with deep device control than having a quick, dependable workflow with good visual feedback.

I currently own:

Launchpad Pro MKIII
APC40 MKII
APC Mini MKII
two Launch Control XL MKIIIs
Roto-Control

Which of these would you build the clip-launching side of the setup around? Is the Launchpad Pro MKIII the best option for an 8×8 clip and scene launcher, or do the APC controllers integrate more reliably with Bitwig?

I’d also be interested to know whether you use Bitwig’s native controller script or DrivenByMoss, and whether there are any limitations or awkward quirks that only become apparent during an actual performance.

Thanks!

Boss GK-5 or GK-5B for a 30” Bass VI? VG-800 + GM-800 tracking

Has anyone here tried the current Boss GK-5/GK-5B system on a 30” Bass VI?

I’m planning a setup like:

GK-5 or GK-5B → VG-800 → GM-800

and I’ve been going through the manuals and videos, but I still can’t find a clear answer for instruments that sit between a conventional guitar and bass.

My Bass VI would be 30” scale in normal Bass VI tuning:

E–A–D–G–B–E, one octave below guitar.

Would you use the GK-5 or GK-5B for this?

Is the important difference mainly the physical string spacing of the two pickups, or does selecting/using the guitar vs bass GK system also change how the VG-800 or GM-800 detects and processes the instrument?

I’m particularly interested in:

tracking accuracy on the low E
latency / missed notes with the GM-800
alternate tuning and per-string processing on the VG-800
whether the system correctly handles the Bass VI register
whether GK-5 or GK-5B gives better results in practice

I’m also looking at a 28” six-string baritone in B or A standard, so I’m curious where people would draw the line:

28” A/B-standard baritone → GK-5?
30” E1 Bass VI → GK-5B?

Or is the correct choice really just determined by string spacing rather than scale length/tuning?

If anyone has actually used a GK-equipped Bass VI with a VG/GM/GR system, I’d really appreciate hearing how well it tracked compared with a normal guitar or bass.

Anyone using a Boss GK-5 with multiscale or 28–30” guitars? VG-800 / GM-800 tracking questions

Has anyone here actually used a Boss GK-5/GK-5B system on a multiscale, baritone or other extended-scale guitar?

I’m planning a GK-5 / GK-5B → VG-800 → GM-800 setup, and I’m trying to choose the right guitar for it. I’ve gone through the manuals and quite a few videos, but there doesn’t seem to be much information about these less conventional instruments.

I’m mainly considering:

a Strandberg-style multiscale guitar
28” baritone in B standard
28” baritone in A standard
possibly a 30” Bass VI in E1 standard

A couple of things I’m trying to understand:

For multiscale guitars: since every string technically has a different scale length, how do you configure something like the VG-800/GM-800, which seems to assume a more conventional guitar setup? Does using an approximate scale length have any noticeable effect on tracking, pitch accuracy or alternate tuning?

For 28–30” instruments: where would you draw the line between using a GK-5 and GK-5B?

Is that choice basically about matching the pickup to the instrument’s string spacing, or is there also an advantage to the guitar/bass version depending on the register and tuning?

For example, would you still treat a 28” A-standard baritone as a guitar, but a 30” E1 Bass VI as a bass?

Most importantly, I’m curious about real-world tracking. If the guitar is properly set up, does a long-scale or multiscale instrument track just as reliably through a GM-800 as a conventional 25.5” guitar, or have you noticed more glitches/latency with very low tunings?

Would love to hear from anyone who has actually tried GK pickups on multiscale or long-scale instruments rather than just the usual Strat/LP-type setup.

[ID Help] Trying to identify Nicolas Jaar’s (Darkside) MIDI controller/synth from blurry 2026 tour footage

Hey all,

I'm building my own live electronic rig and using Darkside (Nicolas Jaar / Dave Harrington / Tlacael Esparza) as a reference for hybrid analog/digital live setups. I grabbed some very rough screenshots + a screen recording from an Instagram story (@darksidetheband, reposted from @eatyourownears) of their July 2026 London residency at EartH Theatre.

Between the blue/green stage lighting, distance, and motion blur, I can only make out rough shapes on what I think is Jaar's table:

- A pad-grid style controller (row of small illuminated pads)
- A separate unit with a cluster of red/orange backlit buttons or knobs
- Possibly a laptop (Ableton) just out of frame

Older gear-spotting sources (Equipboard etc.) have linked Jaar to a Livid Instruments CNTRL:R, Absynth 5, a Moog Minitaur, and a Make Noise Morphagene in the past, but I can't confirm any of it matches this specific rig, and I know his gear differs between solo shows, Nicolas Jaar & Group, and Darkside.

Photos attached below — sorry for the quality, it's a dark venue shot through a phone screen. Does anyone recognize the controller shape, or has anyone seen a clearer rig shot from this 2026 residency run (Paris/London/NYC/LA)? Appreciate any leads!

Can anyone ID the gear on Nicolas Jaar’s table in DARKSIDE’s current live rig?

DARKSIDE reposted this clip from EartH Theatre in London a few hours ago. I grabbed a few frames because I’m trying to work out what Nicolas Jaar is using in the current live setup.

The controller on the right looks like an Akai APC40 MkII to me, but I can’t identify the red-lit units on the left. I’m especially curious whether any of them are synths, samplers, effects processors, an audio interface, or a hardware looper.

Does anyone recognize the exact models, or have clearer photos or footage of Jaar’s rig from the current tour? Partial IDs would also be appreciated.
I know Dave Harrington has a separate guitar and looping rig, so I’m specifically asking about Jaar’s table in these photos.

Sorry about the image quality — these are screenshots from the reposted Instagram Story.

Fender Tone Master Pro vs. Line 6 Helix Stadium: Why the TMP actually blew me away.

I haven't used a multi-effects unit in a few years. In the past, I've had experience with the Line 6 HX Effects, Neural DSP Quad Cortex, Boss GT-1000, and GX-100. However, my recent music work demands a lot of non-traditional sounds. Pedals from Red Panda and Chase Bliss have become the core of my modulation, along with the octave and de-attack features of the EHX POG2. I could only find similar functionality in the Boss GX-100, but it wasn't quite what I wanted, so I ended up sticking entirely to individual stompboxes and physical amps.

Recently, I decided to try out the Fender Tone Master Pro (TMP), and I was absolutely blown away by how intuitive it is. I didn't even need to look at the manual; my experience tweaking physical gear translated perfectly to the TMP's workflow. Moreover, the TMP's POG2, Tape Echo, and reverb models sound genuinely stellar.

Later, I A/B'd it with a Line 6 Helix Stadium, and the difference was night and day. The Stadium was much harder to dial in for both the amps and the tape echo. On top of that, its synth and octave performance were significantly worse than the TMP's. It's hard to believe it's a more expensive unit.

Here is my current breakdown of the TMP:

Pros:
❶ Incredibly intuitive for players who are used to traditional physical amps and pedals.
❷ Fast workflow; the amps and effects are super easy to dial in, and the UI experience is fantastic.
❸ Great I/O, including XLR balanced outputs and stereo effects loops.
❹ Outstanding synth and POG2-style effects.

Cons:
❶ The footprint is simply too big.
❷ Low DSP (CPU) headroom. Dropping in just one synth or POG2-style effect eats up a massive chunk of processing power.
❸ Underwhelming ambient effects. The reverse delay is pretty weak, the overall selection of delays and reverbs is a bit sparse, and many of them sound quite generic or too similar to one another.

If I had the budget right now, I'd buy the TMP in a heartbeat.
