Victor Mesa had, through Monday, played in only 53 big-league games. The Draft

There was a compelling case for the Rays to take Vahn Lackey given their long-standing search for a true franchise catcher, but it's hard to pass on the highest ceiling in the entire draft. Given the stalled development of Carson Williams, they are also lacking a clear long-term answer at shortstop. Emerson will take a few years to get there, but he has all the tools to be that guy.

Revenue teams shared: Do the owners pocket the money?

On Wednesday, the MLBPA called for "expanded free agency and salary arbitration rights along with almost doubling the major league minimum and increasing the money high-revenue teams share with the less-wealthy clubs," per the Associated Press, along with the addition of a "'competitive integrity tax' that would penalize teams dropping below a payroll floor" and for the "luxury tax threshold to rise to $300 million next year."
