Card shop threw out collection

Just posting this here for catharsis. My son had a collection of Pokemon cards, some fake, but a good number of genuine, and some random Magic and Yo-Gi-Oh, and other stuff. We had already dealt with this guy, he offered a small sum for a previous bunch we brought him. This time, I followed up after a few weeks and he messaged us saying he threw the entire lot in the garbage because they were "all fake." Never asked us whether we wanted them back. Said he was sorry and that he'd offer a free pack of cards. I'm sorta blown away by this. We did a bunch of research on the cards, especially the vintage ones and there was some real value there, not huge but added up in our eyes and my son would have been happy with a small offer or to just get the cards back.

Anyway, just venting here, as I'm guessing not much can be done at this point.

Fake cards in collection.

My son has a random collection of Pokemon cards, with a large amount of fake stuff in there because we would occasionally buy fake packs alongside new or used ones from thrift stores or wherever.

Unfortunately he didn't take great care of them, but I think he's got a few hundred euros worth here.

Any easily identifiable qualities to distinguish the fakes? Thinking maybe we could just bring them to a card/gaming shop and ask someone to look at them. Is that a thing?
