Shop says I need DME replaced due to corroded connector. What would you do?

I’m trying to determine whether my DME truly does needs replacement, or if I can just repair the connector. Looking for advice from anyone experienced with Porsche DMEs, coolant migration, or 958 electrical issues.

My Cayenne:
- 2011 Porsche Cayenne S
- ~165k+ miles
- Purchased about a month ago

Timeline:
Shortly after purchase, intermittent faults started appearing:

- Fuel gauge faults
- Rear plate light faults
- Key not recognized warnings
- TPMS inactive (pre-existing issue)

Then eventually:
- PSM failure
- CEL

Initial codes included:
- P2307: Cylinder 3 ignition module primary circuit high
- P2308: Cylinder 3 ignition module soft shutdown
- P0660: Intake manifold switchover driver
- P065E: intake manifold switchover
- U0402 invalid data from TCM

Actions already taken:
- New battery installed and coded
- Replaced all spark plugs
- Replaced all ignition coils (OEM)
- Codes existed before coil/plugs replacement
- Coil swapping did NOT move fault from cylinder 3

Local indy shop findings:
- Corrosion found at DME connector pins (blue/green corrosion visible) (photos attached)
- Corrosion/contamination also present at thermostat connector (photo attached)
- Shop states they confirmed coolant migration through harness from thermostat area to DME connector

- Their recommendation:
- reman/used DME cloned of original
- wiring repair ("2 wires need to be run")
- thermostat/water pump replacement
- Total quote around $8.9k
I can knock out the thermostat and water pump replacement myself, so that’s not my concern. It’s the DME that complicates this issue.

I specifically asked:

  1. Was internal DME damage verified? → No
2.. Is DME replacement recommended because damage was confirmed? → No, recommendation is based on visible corrosion and eliminating future failure risk

Car still:
- Starts
- Runs
- Communicates with PIWIS
- Throws faults
- Drives poorly due to PSM failure associated limp mode.

Questions:

  1. Does this sound like a DME that is likely internally damaged, or could connector corrosion/harness contamination realistically cause these symptoms?

  2. Has anyone successfully repaired/cloned a DME in a similar coolant migration scenario instead of replacing?

  3. Any recommended Porsche DME repair companies or specialists?

- I’ve already looked into:
Specialized ECU repair: They don’t handle Cayennes
Protomotive: helpful, but don’t work on Cayennes
Upfix: says they can do it but sketchy reviews
g7 computers: says they can do it but really sketchy reviews

Trying to avoid throwing thousands at assumptions. Appreciate any insight.

Joined the club a few weeks ago…

First Porsche! 2011 Cayenne S. Already working through some issues. Threw a PSM failure due to crapping out a brand new coil pack, causing fault codes P2307, P2308, along with two intake manifold switchover codes (P065E, P0660). If anyone has any insight on an issue like that, do let me know. I really love this thing already despite the initial trouble!

Seeking guidance

Howdy. I’m relatively new to the hobby. Been trying to get the color right with IF minis. I tried something here I saw on YouTube, which was to first base coat in Imperial Fist contrast paint, then mix up Gore-Grunta Fur with Contrast medium (1:3 ratio), laying that all over, then stippling/dry bushing with white, before going back over the whole model with Imperial Fist yellow, specifically targeting the spots where the Gore-Grunta mix laid heavy. Well, this was the result. Clearly I messed up somewhere. Can anyone identify where it went wrong and/or offer some advice? Thanks!
