Spring is here. System turn on.

We encountered a Hunter system with PGP heads and PGV globe valves (glue-in) where some of the valves have failed and will not close. There is a significant trickle from the heads in the zone and made a river in the yard. Parts are on order and won’t come in for a while.

Without cutting out the globe valves, is there a way to isolate them so water doesn’t go to them while we use the rest of the system? We also need the system pressurized for the municipal RPZ test And was hoping to do it this week.

ON quick builds where the steps can be standard rise/run, do you buy the ready made stringers or cut your own? This might be a North American question.

Things we already know:

  1. If it’s standard we can and should’ve saved the stringers show after show
  2. One can hack the big box stores by transcribing the ready made stringers on uncut lumber
  3. At least we should have templates in the shop for a standard rise/run stringer so we don’t have to pay for ready made stringers
  4. You should never trust AI with stair calculations. It will hallucinate an answer for you.

TL;DR: We are screwed

sorry, a bit ranty

Community theatre. I volunteered for a set build but am undercover reporting back to the Designer. Crew thinks I’m one of the actors‘ dad. I’m a local general contractor that have rebuilt a house for the Designer’s mother

TD and carpenter are these two elderly guys that can’t use a computer but they also can’t read off paper. They can’t do math and their build knowledge seems like a bunch of tips from YouTube.

The Designer designed a beautiful set under constrained budget and the tech drafts are excellent. It should be easy as building LEGOs. At the rate we’re going, it’s going to end up being 3 pieces of plywood on the floor and imagining what it could have been.

If I bring in MY GUYS I can build the thing in 5 days but today we found out the TD was keeping a secret. He was told by the venue manager a whole TWO months ago that the stage had to be cleared the day before Tech for a different event. The venue is so small, we have no where to store or push back the pieces. We can’t build during Tech or orchestra rehearsals. The venue has had beef with the production and won’t let us in to build early/after hours. If the designer knew this 2 months ago, they would’ve built it modular and small enough to fit on a trailer for a remote build. Tech is in 5 days. Are we screwed? Yes we are screwed.

The only alternative I can think of is for me to build a modular backup set in my shop and drive it to them the morning of Tech...

Ive already told the Designer what’s happening. Who should go to whom to change course? I don’t know if the TD will admit to needing help.

[EDIT]
Im not taking this project home. I’m not a hero, just a volunteer. If the production needed me to build a modular set at my shop, I’d send them a bill. The Director, SM, and Designer has been asking the TD for two months for clarification and assurance that this build would work. The TD has been laissez-faire about it and now they are in a bind. So much for communication. I have no obligation to the Designer, I just did them a favor by being a fly on the wall. I’m out.

[EDIT 2]
Just noticed the post title reads “How do I save” instead of “How do we save”. This is strange because I always weasel out of responsibility by using the first-person “we” even when it’s only me.
