There Should be Better Posting Standards.
I think the post etiquette on makerworld is honestly quite poor. In my opinion there's only 3 things that should be included in the photos of a post.
- a full 360 of the STL I'm going to download
- a full 360 of the item printed (listing machine+filament used)
- and then, ONLY THEN, a 360 of the printed item with any touch ups, paint jobs, ect.
Obviously if it's a functional part seeing it in action via gif helps too.
What I DO NOT think should ever be included is:
-these ai "touch up" photos
-ai "renderings" of what the item "could" look like
- ai fake backdrops
-anything that doesn't show the actual GD model, the STL or printed.
All these things are useless to the process of printing the model and are blatantly dishonest as to what the actual item will or can be. These items are meant to actually be printed and used in the real world, and it's a huge waste of time and resources when the advertising of the item does not match the item itself.
I would go so far as to say any post that does these bottom things should qualify to have their posts taken down.
Note that I'm not saying anything about STLs that are AI generated. I'm specifically talking about images that do not match the actual items being posted.
