GAP Insurance options

Hi, i recently refinanced my car with Capital One, and my previous bank refunded me the GAP insurance.

I have been looking for hours, and all companies that says online that offers GAP Insurance, they want me to also bundle my auto insurance.

I dont want to change my auto insurance cause my current policy with this bank is always cheaper. No one has been able to beat them, not even close.

Anyways, can someone help me and point me in the right direction here? Were can I buy a GAP insurance, thats not in the dealership?

From what I understand after digging through the IRM, if you're placed on an involuntary detail and that position later becomes permanent, you’re supposed to get 2 years of grade retention, then pay retention, under the current regs and policies. That’s basically a safety net, especially for people on the CSR detail.

Now here’s where it gets tricky.

HCO and IT (not sure about other areas) recently pushed emails encouraging people to apply for internal opportunities. A lot of these are lower-grade details, and many are labeled as MBE (may be extended) or MBMP (may be made permanent).

From the IRM, my understanding is:

--If you’re on a detail (even voluntary, even lower grade), you stay on your home position for pay purposes

--So your pay doesn't drop while you're on the detail

But what happens if:

--You voluntarily apply for a lower-grade detail

--And then that position gets converted to permanent

My concern is this: HCO/IRS could argue that since you applied voluntarily, you’re basically accepting the downgrade, and that could kill any argument for grade/pay retention. That turns it into a “you chose this” situation instead of a protected move.

The IRM seems clear on involuntary situations, but I’m not seeing anything solid that protects people in this specific scenario.

So the real question is:

If you voluntarily take a lower-grade detail and it becomes permanent, do you lose grade/pay retention protections? Or is there something in the IRM that still protects you?

This is why I always tell coworkers to be very careful if they plan to apply for lower grade details.
