Recommend me some short native plants please

Let me preface this by saying I know there is a bias against tall plants. I actually already have a larger section of my yard dedicated to growing some tall plants and I will continue to buy them too. I have been finding that, among native plants, it seems easier to find ones that'll grow quite tall vs finding short ones. So I'm actually looking for recommendations to fill out my knowledge gap on short native plants (zone 6b of the USA here). I want to replace stretches of unknown grass/sod closest to the sidewalk with some roughly 1-2 foot tall natives. Short so they don't overwhelm passers-by by reaching out requiring a lot of trimming. This can be grasses/sedges, not just forbs but those are good too. All of the above are welcome.

EDIT: I'm in MA and the areas are mostly full sun. Thanks for all the replies, I will keep replying soon.

Landscaping on the Appalachian Trail

hiked on the AT in Virginia recently, and was delighted to see they’re starting to clean up the weeds and bringing in some proper ornamentals!

Suitable aphid habitat?

I have done my best to create a good environment for aphids and their companion ants, but I want to help them even more. Should I add a water feature? Some tiny chaise lounges? a tiki bar? or is my wingstem enough?

aphid won’t tell me if it’s problematic

I’m worried this aphid might be problematic not beneficial! I asked it some really juicy questions about gender and sexuality and western imperialism but it doesn’t say anything, just sips on the wingstem. I just want to make sure I only have beneficial insects in my garden and that I am not creating habitat for problematic ones. or maybe I can flip them with a coordinated reeducation campaign? help soon please I have Raid on hand in case

It feels good after years of planting native and keeping outside lights off to sit on the back porch and eat all the lightning bugs

I’m not sure how they came out but damn they are out in full force. I’ve spent the last 5 years doing all I can to turn my little slice into a paradise for native plants, bugs, and animals.

sentricon installation

hi there, I’m a big fan of insects but unfortunately had a termite issue identified last year. I had a pest company install sentricon stations, and they were going to do a targeted treatment—then “accidentally” drenched the soil around the perimeter of my whole house. stations have not had termites since, but they installed them in some pretty odd places. I thought sentricons should be next to the house foundation. granted I installed a deer fence around our garden, but I could let the inspector in to monitor the stations if needed—it seems like they didn’t care and just installed them randomly in our path even though they’re 20ft from the foundation. is this legit?
