Anyone know the age and origins of this pottery, found along Rideau River in Ottawa, Canada?

It is just so gorgeous... and would love to know more about it. Thank you!

Is this pottery or just a stone?

Found along the Ottawa River. At first glance, we thought it might be a broken piece of pottery, but the inner layer looks more like rocks...

Any ideas you have about what it could be would be very much appreciated...

Thank you!

How to stop leak inside 1984 O'Day 28 during rain?

Hi there,

We bought our boat a couple of years ago.

During heavy rains, the front berth gets wet from water leaking down the outside, corner wall/ceiling on the starboard side (on the other side of the wall is the sink in the head).

We are flummoxed on what is causing the leak.

My husband has caulked everything he can find on the outside of the boat, with no success.

Does anyone have some tips on what we can do to stop the water from coming in?

The attached photos show the area in question (we have removed some of the wall carpet that was getting soaked), plus the ceiling area near the sink and the outside of the boat in the general area.

Many thanks!

Confused About Next Steps

Hi there,

My paternal grandparents were born (about 1901 and 1911) and raised in Calabria.

My father, born in 1943 in Canada, has his Italian citizenship.

In 2015, my brothers received their Italian citizenship. I didn't at the time, because I didn't feel sufficiently connected to Italy. Since then, I have traveled there several times, connected with cousins, and learned the language. I am ready.

That said, I am uncertain about what to do next, primarily:

  1. What documents I need to compile, and

  1. What lawyer to hire.

On the lawyer issue, I am wondering whether anyone can recommend someone who is maybe not as expensive as some others?

Any advice you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Backcountry Camping Program for 17 year old?

My son is 17, going into grade 12 and works part-time in Ottawa as a lifeguard and swim teacher. He's has recently taken an interest in backcountry camping, and I would like to pay for him to go on a guided adventure for about a week. But he's kind of in a weird age group - and though he's old enough to work (and does), this would not be a working week.

Can anyone recommend a program that might have availability in August?

Thank you!

Is this dangerous? Found on shore in Nova Scotia

Hi there,

Found this metal detecting today. Called police. Nearby homeowner and police arrived at same time, home owner said not to worry, that it's from WW2 but not explosive. Police officer accepted that, and home owner took the things home. Am worried for his safety. Is it dangerous? Thank you...

Hi there,

Later this week, I am travelling to Rose Blanche and staying at a house for 3 weeks that doesn't have internet. I am wondering whether anyone has advice on how I could get connected just for the duration of my stay?

Many thanks!

Edit: thanks for the suggestions... much appreciated!

Hi there,

I recently noticed that there are some employees in the Government of Canada whose titles are 'Paralegal Expert'.

I was a bit surprised by the title, given that for lawyers (at least in Ontario), there are strong limits on how we can characterize ourselves (for example, we can be certified as specialists in particular fields, but not, to my knowledge, as experts generally).

This is probably much ado about nothing - just wondering if anyone had additional context to explain the 'paralegal expert' phenomenon in the Government of Canada.

Thank you!
