The Broadway-to-Pop-Stardom pipeline
Any examples of Broadway stars failing at pop stardom out there and which ones that made it?
And, if you want to be an armchair manager for a second, how would you make that Broadway-to-Pop pipeline work?

Whenever I stumble upon modern Metal that does its EDM crossovers, I’ve only found three distinct flavors of that so far. I separate them by pioneering bands.
•The Rammstein flavor. Metal crossing over with Italo, Eurodance and Trance seems to only come in the Rammstein flavor.
• The Linkin Park flavor. Metal crossing over with IDM, Glitch and Trip Hop seems to only come in the Linkin Park flavor.
• The Limp Bizkit flavor. Metal crossing over with Trap, Bass and Crunk seems to only come in the Limp Bizkit flavor.
The common thread among all of them are extroversion and hifi production, which only works with a limited set of EDM sub genres to incorporate.
How do we get out of these pigeonholes? Should we get out more and explore less obvious possibilities than these so far?
Just like how punk got divided up into the preppy glam new wave scene and the ghastly bleeding goth scene, is SolarPunk on the same path?
SolarPrep (and SolarGlam to an extent) is SolarPunk turning into crunchy yuppie mush. A SolarPrep aesthetic looks like the bastard child of CottageCore and Athleisure with a dash of Exoticism.
SolarGoth explores the hidden pitfalls of SolarPunk excluding the vulnerable extremes of the population (by a lack of direction of resources towards healing accumulated illnesses throughout society before the implementation of SolarPunk), be it the severely allergic, metro queers or neurodivergent border cases. A SolarGoth aesthetic always has an inhaler / epipen /antihistamine jar with a convoluted design on standby.
Does this sound plausible?
There’s no question about it. “Betrayal” sounds like Slowerpace-style Barber Beats with song, for example.
Any more examples?
So, there’s no denying it anymore that contemporary Goth culture emerged as a dark, gloomy and decaying revival of pop culture from a saeculum ago, right? The late Victorian to early Edwardian dress got a monochromatic revival at the right time (late 1970s / early 1980s) again.
Does that mean that we could predict future styles of Goth from subtracting a saeculum from today?
I could see a dark, gloomy and decaying version of post-ww2 pop culture in the not so distant future. Think Psychobilly and Doom Jazz in the future High.
Since we’re still in Crisis mode, the prevailing mode of Goth since it started in 2008 has been Dieselpunk and Industrial music as a way to guide a mostly EDM-informed population into Goth.
Does this make sense?
Harley & Muscle drums, Larry Heard ride play and a modal sense of chord structure not unlike Kerri Chandler and Jimpster makes it Deep House, albeit a wacky, whimsical one.
I try to pin down what kind of styles that influenced Timbalands prime years during the mid ‘00s to early ‘10s.
For one, his drums are clearly Boom Bap (organic muddy low-mid range with a lot of character) but then ultra-processed to Prince levels of plastic funk. Secondly, he broke the RnB/Neo Soul convention at the time and made his basslines and melodies very synthetic, abrasive and edgy, something clearly inspired by the Electroclash scene at the time. Wouldn’t surprise me if he heard Fischerspooner or similar before producing “Future Sex / Love Sounds”.
So my conclusion is that his genre at the time could be labelled “Electro Bap”. What’s your ideas?
Apart from “Lose Control” by Missy Elliot sampling “Clear” by Cybotron and “Derezzed” by Daft Punk sampling “No UFOs” by Model 500, what other songs and tracks have you heard that samples straight up techno music?
Think dark flannels, sculpted five-o-clock shadows, guyliners for days, well-worn chimney sweep beanies, black worker-jeans, reflective gear etc.
I’m thinking it’s a combination of the Lumbersexual with Health Goth.
Do you think this has any chance of existing?
