Being casually adopted by a maga grandpa

Gramps (73) and I (42M) worked together for 4-5 years and remain in touch. We had lunch a few weeks algo and he mentioned his kids don’t talk to him anymore and he never sees his grandchildren.

I can’t blame them: gramps is a mega maga who is a rush limbaugh acolyte. Both his adult children work in the arts and I suspect they want nothing to do with his politics. He and I get along great - and have a great rapport as long as we stay clear of the politics.

But now gramps seems to want to hang out- got asked to go out on the boat.

Is it worth it to placate this mega maga?

Is my AT&T dealer in over his head?

Earlier this year, an AT&T rep built up a rapport with my company’s ownership about moving our wireless spend to them. They offered quite a competitive deal for a BYOD plan that blew Verizon out of the water. I used that leverage with the hope of sniffing out a better deal from Verizon, but they couldn’t get to as good of a number as AT&T.

After verifying our rep is selling true AT&T service (not a reseller or MVNO), the rep supplied a ‘comfort letter’ from an AT&T sales rep noting that the guy we are working with is an authorized AT&T dealer. The rep also supplied a few references. I did not want to switch but really found no good reason to justify spending $15,000 more/year with Verizon on service alone. Leadership was excited about the cost savings, and I could not, in good conscience, say no.

While the transition started off OK, it is now off the rails. We’re more than a month into our AT&T service and still have a quarter of our lines that have not been ported, nor do we have access to our AT&T account. I’m also unable to fully link our Apple Business account to AT&T, so new orders add devices to our MDM while in transit.

On the off chance our rep does reply to emails, they are of the condescending ChatGPT variety (weird fonts, spacing, em dashes, series of threes) and makes promises that are not delivered.

I am incredibly dissatisfied with this level of customer service. The eventual cost savings on this is keeping me playing nice for now, but our sales rep not delivering on any of his promises and leaving us in limbo between two carriers, and unable to place new orders for hardware is very frustrating. We have some deviecs that need a physical SIM and all he’s sent me are eSIM activation cards with a QR code.

I’ve never worked with an AT&T dealer before. Is there a process for escalating this to the true AT&T corporate or are we stuck with this shady guy?

Important note: AT&T cell service is working fine for my staff; this is all happening behind the scenes. We have a few people waiting on new devices (they are aware of a delay) and my company’s leadership is aware of all of this.
