Supporting small local business'

Am i the only one who's noticing Tanzanians are not good at business?

I've been big on supporting local business' for a long time ila recently, i went through a negative experience with a local artisanal business owner. Long story short i realized wafanya biashara wengi Tanzania hawajali customers wao & the impression they leave on us. I've known this far a long time actually, ila this particular experience was transformative for me because i honestly expected more from said owner. What's the point of being pro-locally made when they are not giving you a good business relationship?

I've started sourcing many of my everyday use household items hadi packaged food from abroad. I noticed kuna some things you can buy from the US, ship to the Uk then to TZ & it'll still be cheaper than sourcing these items from local vendors.

Why am i bringing this up? I feel like Tanzania will never become a business hub for finished products. There's just too much global competition & at this point being focused on supporting local business' nikujipotezea muda. Even kwenye upande of services, there's so many restaurants for example i don't go to because i don't want to deal with poor services yet high prices. People here expect the most for low quality products.

How do you guys generally feel about being consumers in Tanzania? Am i extreme in my views au kuna watu that agree?

16% of the national labor force pays taxes

So the citizen Tanzania recently put out a post kusema kwamba a bolt driver earns almost 3x the national average in wages. I believe this simply because I've spoken to multiple bolt drivers and their numbers in terms of income were similar to what was reported. There was a little dialogue about taxes in the comments regarding this & it inspired me to do some research on tax collection in Tanzania.

We are a nation of 72million people currently and growing. Out of this 72million, 38.53 million are adults of working age. Out of that 38milion we have 4.7million registered taxpayers, though the number of actively contributing taxpayers continues to decline with consistent payers at 2.8million. What does this say about Tanzania? 75million people depend on 2.8million of us to support their infrastructural needs. Meaning, 2.8million people are expected to finance the entire annual budget of the countries needs with their income( i am purposely not including "aid").

I'm not sure what the issue is, ila i think the data is unfair towards the people who consistently pay their share of tax yet do not receive the benefits on doing so. Well to do neighborhoods in Dar where the average rent is $800 utakuta the roads are dusty and not maintained ila kila nyumba contributes millions in taxes yearly. Ukienda Kindondoni kule ndani ndani utaona lami full imewekwa bila barabara kuchubuka. Why is it tax payers are not prioritized alafu, why isn't everyone who participates in this economy encouraged to pay their share of income tax? There's no way we can improve infrastructure without the financial capacity to build it.

I am aware the country has many issues to deal with, ila on-boarding new tax payers needs to be a government priority. Not creating new tax schemes to take from people who already pay in their incomes. I also think consistent tax payers need to be given benefits for doing so over people who don't. I don't think a person's job should matter in regards to whether or not they should pay tax maana they participate in the economy regardless & benefit from the contributions of others too. Having a nation of people that contribute to its prosperity should be a bigger interest for us then having large numbers of people who will only consume what others produce.

If anyone has insightful thoughts about the data & why it looks the way it does you are welcome to share.

So recently Ghana held a UN resolution to seek reparations for the transatlantic slave trade. I think this is very important to restore some sort of dignity to the African people most affected by this dark period including ourselves.

My question is, the Indian ocean slave trade went on for longer than the transatlantic. Even as the British outlawed slavery the Arabs kept going until 1920 with the majority of their slaves being sourced from the Swahili coast. Why is it East Africans hardly speak on this & haven't made a move to seek compensation for the horror we were subjected to by mostly Arabs? Don't you guys think it would be good for East Africans to use the UN resolution against slavery to try make right the wrongs of the past? Slavery in the middle east is actually ongoing & i think Africa isn't doing enough to shield its people from being shackled there. Why don't we hold our own UN General Assembly declaring the East African slave trade as a crime against humanity to support West African efforts

What are your thoughts?
