Advice for extremely dense hair ?

My 12 year old daughter has extremely dense , 3c / 4a prone to dryness and frizz particularly crown area. We've always followed the typical curl advice but her hair frizzes and inflated and because of this it knots up and she hated to have it down. She used to like the volume but not can't stand it and she can't even tie her hair in a ponytail as it's so thick. I can do it but she can't do anything herself and it's starting to get her down.

Photo of her hair after last haircut. Can see it's been defined and diffused but the top bit inflates so much and doesn't curl very well it gets uncomfortable for her.

She also has a very petite face so she would like something less overpowering if that's even possible?

Any tips or advice? She doesn’t like braids etc.

Thank you 🙏

Advice: Relaxer vs Keratin vs Brazilian Blowout

Hey guys! So I have 4c hair and am looking to permanently straighten my hair. I would primarily be wearing sew in's as my hair is shoulder length and I like longer hair. I just hate having to constantly straighten the 'leave out' so this is why I'm looking for something for permanent. For context: I used to get relaxers as a kid and always hated how thin and flat it made my hair. I've had different types of keratin treatments done. The last few made my hair softer and slightly loosened my curls but not by much, and I still dealt with the frizz and reverting. My first ever keratin was at a Dominican salon and although my hair was so soft and shiny and beautiful, it NEVER reverted. It was almost like a relaxer that I had to grow out. Even though she told me it Was temporary. Fast forward to today, I wouldn't mind something more permanent, although I have no idea what kind of keratin that was. In any case, which should I go with based on my goals? I'm hesitant on the relaxer due to cancer concerns, and also don't want breakage from the sew in with the relaxer. I also don't want to go to a Dominican salon and request a keratin, and not get the same beautiful, permanent results as I got on my first try.

Go to hairstyle for dressing up

I have mid neck length hair. I relaxed it last month and its still at the silky phase though with not as much volume. I like tieing it into a low or high bun with different parts on most days.

I have bought a pomade, a leave in conditioner. I have a clarifying shampoo, a couple of herbs I use, aloe Vera, need and i hydrate relatively well.

Im not chasing length that much. Would love to enjoy my journey with short looks at the current hair length I am at.

Here is one hairstyle I like. Is this ok for up class events or should I stick to buns with possibly extra hair. I love my glasses and don't intend on ditching them. I also like my headwraps.

I have uploaded a sample of both looks and am open to other styles being suggested.

Having relaxed hair sucks sometimes

Just wanted somewhere to rant:

I love my relaxed hair, have had relaxed hair majority of my life, however it’s so hard to upkeep it sometimes. I don’t relax at home and only go salons. Back home it was fine and I had a long time hair stylist on lock. My hair was growing more than ever, she even took a picture of it to show people her work and that relaxed hair can be health 🥹 Then I moved to a whiter environment and the aloof people who could do relaxers became slim to none. I already struggle doing my hair at home because of the amount of work and got used to just going to a salon. I called around for hours and the most ridiculous price I heard was $284 for a touch up, style and trim, like wtf?!?

It made me understand that I don’t have a much freedom as I want because I will always be concerned about who can do my hair. After 2 months of no styling and just washing at home, it looked horrible. Now I have to drive an hour to get it done every 2-3 weeks 🥲

Thoughts on a Texture Release?

I have been a straight natural for about 1.5 years and I don’t see myself going back anytime soon. I find it much easier than the curly fros I use to wear and my hair has retained way better length than before. That being said it does get expensive to pay for silk presses very often. I do my hair at home sometimes, but it doesn’t come out as fresh and nice as the salon obviously. My issue is with my roots. They frizz pretty fast and i hate when they sweat out. It’s worse when I do my hair at home cause im not able to achieve that silky straight look I love. I’m thinking about a texture release and wanted opinions. My goal is to have my hair to be easier to straighten at home and I’m looking for that silky straight look. I have thick 3C hair that usually straightens out really well, but in its natural state it’s super thick and hard to blow dry (myself). Has anybody experienced getting a texture release? Any cons? Damage?

Should I relax my hair?

I’ve had sisterlocks for 9 years, my hair is a little over waist length now. Hair type is 4b. I love how low maintenance my hair has been over the years, but I am getting bored with my hair. I think about relaxers bc I remember not wanting to be bothered with it because it was so time consuming, which is why I got locs. I feel like going from locs to relaxed hair is a dramatic change, I brought this up to a coworker and she looked at it as anti-black. I’m just looking to try something new but not super high maintenance! I don’t mind paying to get my hair maintained regularly. I currently pay to get my hair done every 6 weeks on the dot, so maintaining a regular relaxer schedule won’t be a problem, I’m just scared of the unknown I guess?

Much Needed Trim and blowout

Y'all I FINALLY went to the salon after almost a year with no trims and my dumbass thought a 7 month stretch would NOT result in some toasty ends lolll! Um, so, it did and my stylist ultimately took off 2-3inches BUTTT I found my new fave stylist, a gem who can style/cut relaxed, locced, AND natural hair! My hair is so flowy and BOUNCY!!🥰

What do y’all think?? :3

Ultimately, I want my hair to be how Cardi B described her weave, “long ass weave it be tickling my ass crack... “ respectively

Speaking of Carbi B’s haircare line, I’m so, so sorry y’all, I got dms and replies about if her line worked for me and in a quick summary- NO lol it was badddd!! My hair was a tangled up oil ball of misery after I used the shampoo and conditioner...had to go back in with the holy grails to save my poor mane🥲 I bought one of each so I can speak on each if y’all want, just lmk💖

Should I Relax my virgin 4c hair?

I grew up getting relaxers but I’ve been natural for a decade plus. I think I’ve reached a point in my life where I need a low maintenance routine and I don’t want to cover my scalp (i.e. wigs, closure sew-ins). Braids aren’t really that protective and my hair grows the best when I wash it and deep condition weekly. But that’s so time consuming with my thick 4c hair and I don’t know how to style in in the days between washes (I don’t know how to braid my hair, best I can do is a low bun). I have an active lifestyle with workouts, work in a corporate office, and travel frequently and I think it’s just time to close my natural hair chapter, but it’s daunting to consider because a relaxer is so permanent. If I just relax my roots, would that help me achieve some of the relief I’m looking for? I do like curls and volumes it’s just the maintenance I can no longer bear. Welcoming all thoughts, suggestions, etc. thanks in advance!

Relaxing very dirty hair?

Hi everyone, I’ve never relaxed my hair before and I’ve had my wig braids for about 3 months now (yikes)..

My hair and scalp is super flaky and I was wondering if it’s okay to perform the ORS mild relaxer on my hair in this condition.

I was also wondering if it’s okay to use water to detangle my hair before applying the creamy crack?

Thank yall!!

How would my hair do with lye relaxer (want to make it look curly to straight)

Photos 1 to 7 are hair wet and photos 8 to 14 is hair dry. I use iron sleek shampoo and iron sleek conditioner. And then blow dry or naturally let dry to dry. What would be the process to make it look straight?

Are hair oils good for relaxed hair?

As in the hair oils with silicones. Everytime I try and put hair oil on my ends at night my hair gets a weird texture and starts to feel dry the following days.

FRUSTRATED! I give up.

I've been in this sub for almost a year. I have high density, high porosity 4C hair. I HAD some deficiency issues which I promptly fixed (It takes 3 months/90 days to fix iron stores) so since March, Iron, vit B complex, D3 and cod liver oil and pre natal in rotation and almost everyday. I also been doing a relaxer stretch. I relaxed every 12 weeks. So this is my third relax this year. I don't have hard water problems but I still try to use the RedKen Cleaning cream. I try to use bond builders, protein every 4 weeks but my hair is just chronically dry.

I MAY be at fault. I used a Tymo heat brush to straighten my hair at week 9 and 10 and did a steam and deep conditioner treatment at week 11 (last week). I lost all of my progress since March basically and I am so mad. I just can't grow my hair past this point. My hair snaps if you look at it too hard. Maybe I have to pass up heat completely during my maintainance or use the WAVY TALK STEAM BRUSH instead of the Tymo which leaves my hair unbelievably dry.

I'm just so mad y'all... it's not the products either. Because prior to the heat I think my hair was thriving.

Simple Relaxed Routine

Hey everybody, I’m thinking about relaxing my hair after this pregnancy. Are there any super simple relaxed hair routines that I can follow? I’ll be dealing with a newborn and won’t have the patience or funds to do a 15 step routine with a bunch of expensive products.

I plan on washing when necessary and just blow drying my hair on low heat or even cool after applying whatever hair products would be best. Currently with my natural hair, I just wash, condition, apply leave in, and blue magic before braiding or styling. I deep condition like once a month but I’m a very low maintenance type of hair person.

Any simple advice would be greatly appreciated!

Keracare Humecto Conditioner

I’m in need of a deep conditioner that actually moisturizes my hair.

For my last wash day, I recently bought a clarifying shampoo as my hair hasn’t seemed as moisturized from the cecred hydrating shampoo. The clarifying shampoo made my hair so dry almost like I got a relaxer and I hate that feeling. I also tried design essentials honey Creme shampoo and masque but my hair still feel felt the same way.

I was considering trying the keracare humecto conditioner for my next wash day but my question is are the smaller containers different from the 5 pound containers? The 5 pound container as deep conditioner instructions I noticed but I can only buy from Amazon (I cancelled my order as it wasn’t from the brand and I was concerned about it being fake for almost $50). I can buy the smaller bottles near me.

Back on “creamy crack”

So I did it guys! I relaxed my hair after 8/9 years of growing it out naturally with no chemicals or relaxer in my hair. Eventually (the other day LOL) I’ve had enough! I cut my hair back in 2018! Stopped relaxing my hair 2017. Fast forward to just this last weekend i decided to relax it. I did this because I would stay getting silk presses that started to not last as long. I do live in Midwest Michigan so yes it’s very humid. That humidity was tearing my hair up! Causing it to revert back to the “natural state.” Which I hated because my curls have no synchronization… As it’s damaged from all the silk presses I’ve gotten between 2018-2026. My hair was beginning to be unmanageable. Like seriously. I was ready to get a pixie cut! My sister talked me out of the pixie and said if you were doing the pixie you’d have to relax it. So relax all your hair and see if you like it. If you don’t like it then cut it. I am so happy I decided to just try the relaxer. Went to a small black owned salon! She got me together. It has been almost a week and my hair still is so fresh like day one. I’ve been sweating, fighting humidity outside and inside! As I work in the restaurant industry so walking through the dish area with those huge dishwashers going, it was fluffing my hair all the way out before clocking out. So frustrating!!! Before anyone asks, yes I typically keep a silk press year round. As I don’t know how to manage my hair, as well as I have sleep disorders! So I’m already too exhausted to do my own hair.

So happy I relaxed my hair! Back on that creamy crack! I highly recommend if you are struggling with your natural hair! My hair is moving beautifully, no stiffness!  No breakage.

Made a cute little TikTok, and it inspired a lot of women to reconsider & or go do it!

ISO: Salon Recommendations in the Twin Cities, Minnesota

I’m desperately looking for a salon that does chemical hair relaxers in the MN Twin Cities area. I’ve been going to a private lady for years, but she recently got injured and I don’t have a back up person. She’s the only one to do my hair, and I’m extremely nervous to try other places. I’m the MOH in by best friends wedding in 13 days, so I’m kinda freaking out…any recommendations???
