Question about cancelation policy and card disputes

Hi all!

I waxed a guy last month and he rebooked for this month. Originally it was booked for last week and he rescheduled to yesterday (saturday). He then never confirmed and no call no showed. This appointment was a good chunk of my day, its nearly a full body wax, and was a decent amount of money.

I do work at a spa and the front desk is very good about making sure clients know about the cancelation policy. 50% for same day rescheduling/canceling, 100% for no call no show. I gave this guy nearly an hour to call back to get rescheduled. Then when we went to charge him the card was invalid. This was a nearly $300 appointment. I even had front desk take off some items to make it less expensive before charging the no show fee.

I suggested we try again on monday because thats money I'm now missing out on and a girl needs to pay her bills. Another esti said its not worth it because theyll just dispute it with their card company and get the money back. She said that she once got a dispute for a $7 tip and never fought it. She told me it wasnt worth it but I think differently.

I couldnt find too much online when i googled to see if you could dispute a no call no show charge. All the search results basically said "well, yes and no".

This guy was fully aware of the cancelation policy and because he called last week to reschedule, he absolutely could have called again to cancel. Front desk called him multiple times and left voicemails telling him we would be enforcing the cancelation policy. From what I've seen online, as long as theres documentation they've been made aware of the policy, its harder for them to dispute/win.

Does anyone else have any experience with this? Is it even worth it to have them try the card again on monday? Its even possible that he canceled the card conpletely. Maybe im just feeling burnt out cause I really needed the money.

How do you guys deal with not feeling like you can't express yourself at work

Maybe this is just me. This is something ive always envied about cosmetologists because they have the freedom to look alternative or have over the top style and wear fun makeup and everyone still recognized theyre a professional. Of course im sure there are some hair salons that require more of the "polished" look.

But i feel like EVERY spa requires a "polished" look. We, as estheticians, are required to always look clean and beautiful and say exactly the right things and be so nice and kind and sweet. (Apologies, i know thats a run-on sentence)

The only estis that I know that have a more alternative style are solo estis and I cant afford to go solo.

Im just feeling so stuck because I LOVE doing my makeup and i LOVE wearing dresses and funky clothes. I feel like I'm losing myself.

Does anyone else deal with this? This is both looks wise and personality wise. Any tips or tricks?

Becoming a nightmare to be around

I only talk to people at work at this point. I'm just starting to get upset by the smallest things and complaining nonstop. I have to physically shut myself away to stop myself from complaining to every ear thatll listen. Cant afford therapy or medicine and every day gets harder. I dont even spend that much time at work at this point and when I am there i just want to go home and rot in bed. Im exhausted and i dont know how much longer ive got this in me. I just dont want to talk to anyone anymore.

How much fidgeting during a brazillian wax is too much?

Hi all!

I have a brazilian wax client that I'm considering to let go. Shes an older client (late 70s) with a myriad of health and mobility issues. Today she was telling me that yesterday she had gluten and now her allergies are 'running down her legs'. She doesn't have a lot of movement in her hips and knees and needs a lot of breaks between strips. I'm constantly reminding her to let me know if she needs a break so that the wax doesn't cause her to stick to herself or end up somewhere it doesn't need to be. She understands, but Im having to remind her at every single appointment.

How do you determine if someone is or is not a candidate for brazilian waxes? Is it appropriate to turn someone away if they're not able to follow directions?

This client is super sweet but the wax takes forever and ends up being way more difficult. I feel so bad for even considering but she also causes problems for the spa because she wont allow us to burn candles or use diffusers or anything. If she even thinks she smells a candle she wont step foot in the spa. She also never reads ingredient lists but she determines if a product will be good for her by just holding it. Like she makes me hand her my post wax every time I wax her to see if its 'good to use for today' .

Paper Gems finished product and review

Hi all! I found this set at aldi for $5-6 and thought it seemed like a fun alternative to the plastic drils that we're used to. It took me about a week to finish, probably too long for a project of this size but we'll get into it.

The Pros:

I think this is a fun set overall. Its pretty. It's fun to see a plastic free alternative and knowing that they can only get better from here!

The Cons:

The setup caused a little distress. The "wax stylus" they give you doesn't stick well to the drils at all. There is no tray to sort the drils you're using. I think the expectation is that you're supposed to grab the drils directly from the cardboard sorter but the drils stick to each other like crazy. Its either static or still stuck together from the paper cause the packets the drils come in have little pieces of paper from the cutting process. The drils themselves are also quite bottom heavy so there is a lot of shaking that needs to be done. This is also a nitpick but it was very hard to tell the difference between the 6 and the 9 packets. Its probably not that big of a deal but i like to do my diamond paintings after a good strong gardening gummy.

I ended up using an extra sorting tray and my usual pen to pick up the drils and place them. It was a fun time but i ended up taking extended breaks because the drils being top heavy and sticking to each other really got annoying. But I am excited to see what the future holds with paper gem painting and more eco friendly options.

We have one nail artist whos gotten big on instagram and now its become the expectation for the estis. I originally agreed to this job because the spa would post for me and I didnt need to have my own skincare account. I made one but never posted on it. Now I'm not sure I want to post my face at all on social media or make trendy videos and posts. I dont get paid to sit on my computer outside of work making posts. And nails makes so much more sense to post because it doesnt show anyones faces and its much more creative. So its easy to do and every design is different.

Ive been with this spa for 2 years and i love it but this decision is out of my comfort zone. Is it reasonable for a spa to change their social media policy and force their employees to post? I mean i know I have to because my employer is telling me but do i really have no say in this? Is it time to look for other jobs?

The manager of our spa is aware that we are supposed to be getting bad weather (but she says she only sees rain on her weather app). Schools are closing early. Baseball sized hail and potential ef2+ tornadoes. Aaaaand now i have to drive to work and do ✨️facials✨️ as if im not panicking about it.
