Kabukumonogatari standalone dvd with 4 episodes; I am confused

I bought this dvd for 2 bucks and I have no idea what it is. I did some research and apparently it's from the Monogatari series (I thought it was something totally separate from that show). I read somewhere that it's a spin-off story, but also that it's part of season 2? So they just took a couple of episodes from season 2 and put it onto a separate release? Is it worth watching on its own?

The Monogatari series already had me confused at times, but this is just... I hope there's a fan somewhere here who can explain about the what and why with this release.

Today's trip to the post office

Was happy to pick up the Tsurune Collector's Edition (UK) for 20 euros through Amazon. Natuyuki Rendezvous from Canada via eBay, the Eden of the East collection for 8 euros via Rarewaves (EU), and the rest via Archonia (Belgium).

My mailbox was stuffed with envelopes today

The Saikano OVA dvd looked like it went through a warzone (how appropriate), luckily it was just the case.

12 months of collecting after not watching anime for 25 years

Back in the ’90s, Manga Video was releasing anime movies like Akira and Ninja Scroll on VHS. I was fascinated by these Japanese adult 'cartoons'. I watched a bunch of stuff, but it didn't really vibe with me and after that I didn’t really touch anime again. Friends who were a couple of years younger started watching Dragonball Z around the turn of the century, but I never had any interest in it. You could say that my interest in anything anime was zero.

That changed because of the weird Twitter drama around Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, about a year ago. The screenshots really struck a chord with me and I never realized that anime also had other genres besides the usual action stuff. I watched the movie, my first anime in about 25 years) and absolutely loved it. I started watching more stuff; Anohana, Clannad, Plastic Memories, Anthem of the Heart... I got addicted to slice-of-life/romance/drama anime. And along the way, I build up a modest collection of blu-rays as well. :)

I normally don't give a damn about streamer drama, but holy moly, this one is crazy. I am just baffled how totally out of touch one can be.
