Trying to figure out why I never hear or see field sparrow or other field species in the 30+ acre field behind my house

There is abundant sturdy brush and the habitat has not been mowed for hay in at least 8 years. It is surrounded by new suburbs that got built in the last 3 years on 3 sides of it so maybe it’s a fragmentation issue. Is it just a matter of time before they use the habitant? I’ve seen woodcocks doing their mating flights but no meadowlarks or bobolinks. Maybe it’s just not enough space?

I was able to relatively comfortably maintain a 10 min mile for 5 miles today, is that a good starting point as a beginner?

20 M: I’ve always been relatively active due to my outdoors hobbies but I’ve only really gotten into working out in the last 2 years. I enjoyed the weightlifting but dreaded cardio. I’ve become determined to run at least once a week and today I made some decent progress in my second attempt at running for a sustained period. I guess I’m trying to figure out if I’m behind the ball, on par, or a little ahead of the game.

Going to public school in upstate NY we had a cross-country ski/showshoe unit in gym, had a trap shooting team, tapped maple trees to make syrup, and raised chickens. Is this common in other parts of the US?

Went to school early 2010s-2020s
