Missed PFIC Elections and Possible QEF Filing

I hold a Canadian ETF since 2023 and did not file a timely QEF election. The ETF publishes annual information statements which are all zero values - no dividends, profit sharing, etc. I understand the rules around PFIC's are quite punishing. I'm looking for advice on the best way forward. Best case scenario is that I can amend prior year filings to include Form 8621 and move on from there. I'm hoping that is an option since I have never sold to realize gains and there are no dividend payments.

Hitting Mat vs. Mat + Strip

Ok, I know this is probably the most discussed topic on this sub and all information is publicly out there. I know you shouldn't skimp on the hitting mat given the injury risk. I'm finalizing my build and struggling with whether to purchase a 1) a very expensive mat, 2) a cheaper mat to see how it goes, or 3) cut a premium hitting strip into a cheaper mat.

I want the space usable by righties and lefties so ideally the hitting strip is centered. Most of the premium mats w/ built-in strips have the right aligned. So those don't really work. I could buy a Country Club Elite mat for $600 and hit anywhere, but I understand those aren't the best quality to begin with and $600 isn't cheap for a short term option.

There are $100-$200 mats on Amazon which I could purchase to test and potentially retrofit afterwards.

Or should I go fully custom, buy the gym tiles, and build my own with the hitting strip centered? If the strip is centered, how wide do you need to be at that point?

Preferred floor build with Sigpro Softy?

I’m leaning towards a Sigpro Softy mat which is 2.5” tall. What have folks used to build up the rest of their turf flooring to that height - whether to match a full sized mat or a cut in hitting strip?

I suspect a lot of people use gym tiles with foam rolled over top. Most gym tiles are 0.5-1.0”. I haven’t found much bigger. Do you adhere the turf directly to the tile?

If anyone can recommend some good YouTube videos for floor construction, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Wiring from Launch Monitor to Computer to Projector

I'm unboxing everything now and getting ready to install. Looking at the install photos in this sub, I realized I'm unclear as to how everything gets wired -- I never actually see exposed wires. Do things communicate via bluetooth or WIFI, or should everything be hard wired? I have a ProteeVX, BenQ TK710st, and a tower computer. Does anyone have photos of their setup to help?

Computer for GSPro in unconditioned northeast garage

I'm planning to GSPro on a Protee VX. I have a one-car attached garage. It's a new house so not a trainwreck, but it isn't conditioned or insulated. I am wondering 1) what's the most minimum computer I need to purchase to run the sim at high quality without overspending on extras, and 2) how concerned do I need to be about leaving the equipment in harsh heat or cold? I don't think it's practical for me to move a tower CPU in and out. I've opted for an overhead LM to avoid moving that around so it would be a bummer to now have to move the computer. I've searched this forum for older posts but haven't found much. Appreciate any advice.

AI Launch Monitor Breakdown

I'm currently planning my garage sim and now honing in on LM options. I asked ChatGPT to give me the lay of the land. Here's what I've got so far. Would appreciate any and all feedback on the output!

I've tentatively ruled out the super expensive ones, radar systems, and rear placement since I don't have a deep room (and need to keep the back clear for garage stuff). I'd love to get a ceiling-mounted option just to be out of the way and not have to constantly move it. Maybe I'm overweighting the wrong things though.

Narrow Garage Build

I’ve lurked on this sub for a while and feel I finally have some small momentum.  I’m hoping this community can help guide me over the edge.

I have a narrow one-car garage.  The potential hitting area is 8’ wide.  I can push it to 9’+ if necessary but ideally that wall is fine.  I’m a righty and happy to hit off center.  I am debating doing a semi custom DIY versus just buying a Net Return or Go Sports Elite net so I can practice straight away (it is mid-May after all).

I would like to turf the far ~1/3rd of the room and pair it with an appropriate hitting mat from Carls Place, Go Sports Elite, or whatever you all recommend.  I know I need to build the turf up so that everything is the same height.  Are there specific recs or any how-to’s which gym tiles, turf rolls, and the like to use?

For the impact screen, it’s an atypical dimension at 8’ W x 12’ H.  Should I just purchase a custom size and go all the way up? I found other posts about METech rollers and Spectrum screens which I'm intrigued. A motorized, retractable setup would be a home run, allow me to go wider, and solve the side walls at the same time. Does anyone have good experience with these?
