I noticed I made it to 100 days of reading and wouldn’t have happened without SimpleUi helping me focus by getting all the distractions off the screen.

Also shout out to Bookends for making the reader info much more enjoyable.

UI font is Agile Ruqaa from WPFonts. Reader font is Garamond 3.

Heart battery, icons, and daily tracker made by me.

Took some hair pulling but got the bottom bar to stop inverting the icons, indicator bar, and text all at the same time. Modded the night mode toggle to be dual state (way easier than I thought) and remade the lock screen for color screens. All I wan’t now is a golden Triforce to replace the fire icon.

As someone who makes their own screen savers, even a little bit of ghosting bothers me. I found an official solution posted a couple of weeks that ALMOST solves it but breaks the image in other ways. You can find that here https://github.com/koreader/koreader/pull/15568

What I’ve done is edit that solution a bit to display the screen saver a second time after the refresh in order to clean up the mess. (You’ll see my comment soon in that thread with the different examples of original, the “fix” my own “fix”)

Mine is 100% ghost free but the implementation breaks the lock screen gesture. If I can find a way to fix that we will finally be done with not only ghosting, but grainy or posterized, undithered lock screens forever.

Also, heres my entire modded setup. 2.0 compatible. (Edit, the entire folder is NOT 2.0 compatible and the coolest part won’t work until the next release so stay tuned and I’ll explain it then) It would be ABSOLUTELY DUMB to install this onto your own device as is unless you absolutely love EXACTLY how it looks RIGHT here.

However, there are 3 desktop modules that may interest you. module_currently, with the centered text, module_reading_goals, with the hour glass (ONLY for daily goal) and module_quick_actions that is modded to keep icons from inverting in night mode (works only with “bare” option for now.)

The TOP bar with the heart battery is HARD CODED with the text in the center. This wasn’t done with the custom text option and the only way to change it is to edit the lua. Also, the memory option using the film icon is a Zelda reference so if you hate it then you can also change it in the lua.

For the “module_currently” to work as shown things habe to be laid out as shown in the pictures on the google drive file.

I’m TRYING to upgrade from my Kindle PW3 to a Kobo Clara Color but I’ve run into a strange issue that nobody seems to be talking about

With certain plugins and patches that handle the frontlight and update in real time (including bookends), there is a timing issue that leads to the screensaver being messed after the frontlight turns off. I’ve narrowed this down so far to being related to how the plugin or patch hooks i to reader to update the frontlight state.

The video shows the moment this happens. I delayed the front light turning off for 5 seconds so it would be more obvious.

I’m currently trying to find one of two solutions.

1.) make sure Kobo turns off frontlight FIRST to avoid these issues
2.) (the one I think I can figure out myself) figure out a different way to update the frontlight.

Any ideas? Anyone see their screensaver looking slightly ugly and not know it didn’t have to?

UPDATE: solved by adding “and not Device.screen_saver_mode” to the string that handles refreshing the frontlight status

Made the night mode toggle turn from a warp tile to a mirror 🤓 simple UI is still so fun!

The last is more universal while the first is for my specific setup.

It matches exactly with my setup but I might make a more universal and sharable one.

Here are a few ALTTP themed icons for SimpleUI.

PLEASE pick the correct folder. Many of the color ones don’t look good in black and white because of contrast issues. And the B&W ones are discolored in order to force better contrast so are off on a color screen.

Now, this is it for me unless I find a GREAT reason to update ANYTHING in the future. I thought I was going to buy a kobo clara color for easier libbby support but they just raised their prices and a WONDERFUL plugin just came out too that solves my biggest issue of relying on amazon for library books.

But because I’m not moving to a newer version I unfortunately wont be able to just share my files without breaking (or bricking )someone’s system. I’ll find some way to share the gist of the bigger changes though but probably not soon and certainly not in this post or comments.

First, sorry to everyone I promised my modded files to. Since the update from 1.4.5 to 1.5 has changed so much, I’m gonna hold off because you’ll just run into issues if you copy any of my lua files to an update version.

I’m 99% sure this is the last I’m gonna tweak though.

Yesterday, I was 100% sure but then I tweaked the battery icon u/phyvealive made and decided that the ACTUAL last thing I want to do (that I don’t know how at this moment is to move my zelda style battery indicator to the top bar. Thought it would be simple enough but instead I crashed the system (first time in a while!)

But once I get THAT done I’ll probably never update koreader or simple ui again. It’s perfect now thanks to u/doctorhetfield and I can’t imagine wanting anything else tweaked unless I get a color reader.

Already made an issue on github but wondering if it’s just me.

Noticed that the author text in the first photo had a typo so I went to fix it by editing the field in book information (long press book in library view and tap “Book information” then long press field you want to edit and press “set custom”) but the error remains in the currently reading module on the home screen.

Then (picture 2) I noticed that another book I’d edited to show the series number wasn’t showing the edited title.

Both books show properly in history (picture 3) and the titles and authors show up properly in reader. Wondering if anyone else has come across this or found a fix. I noticed most other patches and plugins call “bookinfomanager” but this one doesn’t seem to only read metadata directly.
