My rhythm tengoku pilgrimage...

My rhythm tengoku pilgrimage...

Had the opportunity to visit Tokyo on the weekend of our beloved series' return. (And yes, I did Perfect all 80 games during my flights...)

Thank you to Tsunku♂ and the team for giving us so much joy. Truly a "MIRACLE PRODUCER"!

And yes, I picked up plenty of merch at the Nintendo Store. I skipped out on the stickers and Lockstep tote bag. My favorite has to be the Hoop Trundling keychain! They also gave out the big plastic shopping bag and a fan with your purchase. (The fan had different versions for the Japanese equivalents of Try Again, OK, and Superb!)

Hope everyone is enjoying the release as much as I have. ❤️

Nintendo is missing BIG by not calling Pink Pantheress to make an ad for Rhythm Heaven Groove.

The impact that Pink Pantheress have especially for the new fans and people who didn’t even knew the game is insane. She clearly loves the game and references it constantly being tru stage performances https://x.com/math\_chaim/status/2073552427001790763/video/1?s=46
or tru her new music video which is basically a live action remix https://youtu.be/qRAJowgHqxA?is=mtlQvw28uelW0xmH

In Groove, how often have you asked yourself “is it over?” and you’re not even halfway done?

That is something I really love about this game. They weren’t stingy at all with the games lengths. Almost every minigame is as long as Fillbots 2 from DS, which is comparable to the length of Remix 10 Fever. I absolutely love this game I can’t stop talking about it

The EVIL and VILE Moon

That fucking Moon that I Hate but I also love he's such a dick. Sneezy Moon 1 + 2 are divided games right now, but they're some of my favs idc.

What was the last game you had to perfect in Groove?

The last one I was struggling on was Remix 5 oddly enough. The timing of the butterflies threw me off many, many times. But after many many tries I managed to squeak by and get a perfect. So what games did you struggle to perfect?

Secret alternative harder hoop trundling

There is a random chance this would happen after you complete hoop trundling 2 and went back to the first one

Huge Fever Fan (in my top 10 games of all time). Groove has far exceeded my expectations so far. Here’s why:

Just want to share some nuanced thoughts about this game and how it’s lived up to my hype. I play a LOT of games (typically 40+ a year), and I judge them less on expectations, and more on how they achieve their ethos.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: in many respects this game is not Fever. The music feels less like an album of similar songs, and more like a playlist of varying types of songs. I’d even sadly say there’s a few tracks I’d just consider quite bland (Pop, Don’t Drop being the key example for me). There’s less themed remixes too, of course. But this is not Fever. This is Groove. And to me, Groove is amazingly fun despite what it’s missing from Fever.

What Groove lacks in consistency, it makes up with extremely high peaks. There have been countless times where I’ve found myself saying “HOW DID THEY EVEN COME UP WITH THIS!?”. The way these mini games choreograph surprises and mixups has been incredible. A key early example being the Hop N Slide glitch section. So cool, and there’s so many examples like that as you make your way through the game. In many aspects, this game feels like it takes way more risks to do crazy stuff than Fever ever did. How a mini game will play out can be straight up unpredictable.

The d-pad inputs were a hard sell for me at first, but the game has completely sold me on them at this point. Games like Backup Spotlight have completely justified the mechanic for me. I also love the scramble to remember which input is which in a remix, it feels like a great knowledge check.

Yes, I’d say the game prioritizes quantity, but the quality is still very consistent. There is so much good here. I’m on stage 10 now, and I personally wouldn’t call a single game bad at all. And many of them left a huge impact. I also think, while Fever does have a better soundtrack, people will warm up to a lot of tracks in this game as time passes. As the game has progressed, I’ve found the music to be consistently great, but there were a lot of meh tracks in the first couple of stages to me, so it doesn’t leave the best first impression.

I never expected this game to be a good as Fever. But the more I play, the more I find myself thinking “this is gonna be A LOT of people’s favorite Rhythm Heaven” because it just does so much cool shit with the mini games. Goes in places I never would have expected. Also, this difficulty curve is great. No notes. Love how they handled the flipside.

And none of this even mentions how much great multiplayer stuff there seems to be too, I’ve yet to even scratch the surface with that.

Basically, when looking at Groove in a vacuum it’s a very fun and creative game, and shockingly my GOTY by far (Mina & RE9 being my runner ups). I think we should all at least attempt to take a step back and appreciate this for what it is, even if it’s a bit off from our expectations. I never thought this would be a Fever level game for me, but I’m surprised how close it really is.

Dont let your expectations stop you from enjoying Groove. You always have Fever to go back to, be glad Groove does its own thing and stands out. It feels way more experimental, and I love it for that. Most games wish they had even half of the pure, unhinged creativity of Rhythm Heaven Groove. Enjoy it!

Rhythm Paradise Groove left me a little disappointed. Here's why

So... Rhythm Heaven Groove. I know this probably won't be a popular opinion, but I wanted to share my thoughts as a long-time Rhythm Heaven fan.

I'll be honest, and it kinda sucks to say this because it's probably the only entry we're getting this decade. Hell, it's not even guaranteed we'll ever get another one since Tsunku isn't immortal, and he's already been through a lot. As for the content, I feel like they went for quantity over quality. One of the main reasons I've always loved Rhythm Heaven is the music. I've always found the songs insanely catchy. For me, the satisfaction comes from taking part in these tracks like you’re a percussionist, playing along to songs that are energetic and get stuck in your head.

Here... sorry, but it feels like it's 80% generic electronic music. Looking at the whole soundtrack, how many melodies are actually memorable? Personally, maybe three or four? Just think of Fever and you'll instantly have ten iconic tracks pop into your head. The musical styles used to be so much more diverse before Groove. I actually went back and listened to the older games again, and there's way more variety in the instruments and overall sound. I still really liked some tracks though, Alien Alphabet in particular stood out to me.

The UI... I won't even go back over the main menu, we've all talked about that already. But the intro screens for each minigame. Back then there was real effort put into the typography. It felt handmade, not just a single line of text slapped on the screen with some random DaFont font. As for the minigames themselves, I like the fact that they don't really have a consistent visual style. That's nothing new for the series, but it's always fun jumping from one art style to another. But... they were just so lazy at times. It's painfully obvious in some games where the "animations" are literally just the character being slightly stretched and squashed to fake movement. It feels really half-assed. And visually, there are moments like Sneezy Moon that really capture that classic Rhythm Heaven charm.

Oh, and I should get into the actual gameplay of the minigames. At its core it's still Rhythm Heaven, but I have a problem with the games that use the D-pad. And there are a lot of them. Unless I'm mistaken, I think this is the first time since Tengoku on the GBA that the D-pad is actually used. Now, the direction changes from one minigame to the next. In the older Rhythm Heaven games, you could come back to a minigame after months and practically Perfect it from muscle memory. Now you also have to remember which direction on the D-pad performs the action in every single game. Sure, there's a bit of consistency overall, but it's pretty debatable. Take Wiper Bosses for example: I get that Left corresponds to the character’s position, but that’s already communicated by the left stick, so it still feels unintuitive that Up isn’t used for the pink one to jump.

I still think Groove is a good game, but as a long-time Rhythm Heaven fan, I ended up being more disappointed than I expected.

Edit: sorry about the title, i meant Rhythm HEAVEN Groove but we say Paradise in Europe lol

Sooooo, those who played, what do you think of this entry's medley remix?

My personal thoughts: for some reason, i expected it to be longer. Other than that: **SUPERB**

Just a personal review of Rhythm Paradise Groove

It‘s called Miracle Stars in japanese cause this Games existence is nothing short of a Miracle.

If there‘s one way I would describe the reception to this Game, I would be using the classic saying of
“Missing the forest for the trees”

Rhythm Paradise (yes, I will call it Paradise. Deal with it!)
is a series that, for many, got better and better with each new entry.
And while yes, each entry did iterate on itself and refined what worked, it also felt like both DS and especially Beat the Beat (a.k.a. Fever) removed a lot of the weirdness and experimental nature of the original Tengoku on the Gameboy Advance (GBA).
Make no mistake, they are well-made experiences, but it always felt like visual spectacle came first with these two, rather than teaching musical concepts.

In a way, Groove feels less like a Sequel to Beat the Beat or Megamix, and more like a soft reboot, or a sequel to the GBA original.
From its UI, to its multiple returning characters, to the return of the Drumming Mode, it feels like a love letter to the beginning of the series, fitting for its 20th anniversary.
But the similarities go even deeper.
Early on, you‘ll get thrown into Off-beats, you‘ll be forced to learn quite a lot of complex inputs before you can even finish the Tutorials of each Game. And while it may annoy most, it‘s absolutely necessary because these are some of the most difficult Games in the series.
After so many complained about Megamix‘s handholding (still love that Game, tho), I‘m glad to see the Team taking this to heart.
Another great thing is that this time, every single Game gets a Sequel, pushing its ideas and difficulty further. And for some reason… I see people complain? Despite previously, people were unsatisfied with the fact that certain Games never got Sequels.

The Remixes, too, have gotten quite a bit of criticism from what I‘ve seen, due to their lack of unique visuals.
But, to bring back my saying from earlier, I feel people are missing the point.
The Remixes have some really amazing transitions that can mess with the Players timings, or ease them into more difficult ones. Again, it‘s less visual spectacle, more teaching you how to gain a better understanding of how music works. Unique and flashy visuals would simply distract.
Also, which Rhythm Paradise Game didn‘t really have that many visual changes in its Remixes? Exactly! Tengoku! (I know I‘m repeating myself but as a diehard Tengoku defender, it‘s very clear to me that this is a love letter to it)

All in all, I feel I‘m more than satisfied with Rhythm Paradise Groove.
I will probably still prefer Tengoku and Megamix (the latter purely for its value) but Groove showed me that the Team isn‘t afraid to experiment again.

I‘m gonna head back soon for the Multiplayer, as well as the RPG mode (which is amazing, btw.! Please make this a full Spin-off!)

Thank you Tsunku and everyone else who wished upon a star to make this miracle happen!

Groove hot take

As someone who has went through this game and got a perfect on everything, and as a person who has played every single rhythm heaven game I would just like to say, I don’t think this game has a single miss in any of the songs, like don’t get me wrong there are songs that I wouldn’t really like going back to like: can do, remix 4 and ribbit rocket 2, but I never found any of them bad or below like a 6/10 and even when I did go back to songs I thought I hated earlier I found myself being more fond of when I went back like yum-bot simulator, crab snacks and pop, don’t drop. I know the main consensus of the game is a little more negative than I would like, but there are a ton of things to love that the game does really well, and the music department doesn’t hold back in any of the songs.

Would y’all buy a hypothetical DLC for Groove if Nintendo make it ?

Since this game is winding up to be the best selling game of the franchise do you guys think they will make a DLC for this game ?

u/hung2109 — 18 hours ago

Can we all admit this is the worst mini game in the series.

There's no way someone can defend a mini game called Yum-Bot simulator. I'm going for an all perfect run now since I beat the game and I despise listening to this song. It doesn't sound good in any remixes because of the sound-cues why does it sound so horrible dude. the 2 songs are good but they could have used ANY other sound effects for dropping the flan. the art is good but something seems off about it. I think I would rather play working dough 2 more than this
