Food and Marriage Question , I never read the books
So in TT they dont show the grocery store system but are able to get flowers and desserts etc, in thehandmaidstale even the high commander's family used a token system for food. I know theres a time skip between the two, but does this mean Giliad somehow fixed the mini food crisis? Was there ever a food crisis or why else would they use tokens? and what changed that made them stop using tokens?
Side question if anyone knows:
is TT showing the very first couple of underage marriages? Because all the commanders that are already married have normal aged wives, except for commander Judd and wife Penny whose house the plums visited around the bus attack. So does this make Penny one of the first few wives that came out of the schooling and was 100% raised to be this way and is TRUSTED enough to be high commanders wife (she started giliad school very young) Im bad at math and I also don't know when the schooling was established enough to begin sending out "wives" that are 100% brainwashed, like if a girl was 12 at the start of Giliad schooling, by 13/14 would she be brainwashed enough to be the wife of a high commander? That seems pretty risky for Giliad to do if the girl grew up in the "before world" for 12 years. And if they weren't sending out wives that were only in Giliad school for a short amount of time, then what happened to those girls? Handmaids because they weren't compliant or trusted enough? Or is this just an inconsistency? Because seriously if I was 12 and went to Giliad school for a year or two I would attack my commander husband the first chance I got especially if hes old af like boy bye😂
