Severe loss of contrast after PVD – normal eye exams
About a year ago, I had a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) with a Weiss ring. Since then, the quality of my vision has changed dramatically.
Before the PVD, my vision was already reduced (around 50%), but I could still function normally with it. Since the PVD, my distance vision has become much worse. At a distance, I mostly see outlines and shapes rather than details. Up close, I can see considerably better.
The biggest problem is contrast. Everything at a distance seems much less clear and less defined, almost as if there is a veil or haze over my vision. It isn’t simply blurry vision.
I still have floaters and a Weiss ring.
I’ve had several eye examinations:
Retina looks normal
Macula looks normal on OCT
No cataracts
No dry eye
Eye pressure is normal
Dilated eye examination was normal
OCT scans were normal
I don’t have any missing areas in my visual field. Colors don’t seem faded either — in fact, colors can look surprisingly bright when I’m looking at things up close.
I also tried looking through a very small pinhole. It makes the image only slightly sharper, but not by much.
Has anyone else experienced persistent low-contrast or hazy vision after a PVD/Weiss ring, despite having a normal retina and macula on examination?
Did it eventually improve, or did you find anything that helped?
