Please critique my portrait skills!
After about ~1 year of on and off practice and learning a lot about light, color & contrast, I'm quite proud of how far I've come! But I know that there is still sooo much to learn. Please tell me how to improve!
I've just heard about Open Street Maps and my mind is completely blown
Wow. How did I go 33 years through life without hearing about this? It's like a better, more practical google maps in every sense of the word. I have so many questions though -
- Does publishing changes made to Open Street Maps publish immediately, for all to see? If so, how does Open Street Maps prevent against trolls/bots randomly making some nonsense edits and publishing it, just to mess with everyone? Or does that just generally not happen, because the only people who know about OSM are cool and nice people?
- How come people use google maps? This seems so much better and more accurate...
- It's using a LOT of RAM in my browser, is there any "low power" setting I can enable for it to run faster?
Thank you so much!!
Update on Harvard's Galileo Project?
Hello, it's been 5 long years since the Galileo Project was started at Harvard, by the legendary professor Avi Loeb. If you don't know, this project was the first of it's kind, utilizing state of the art technology and surveillance equipment combined with the academic rigor of Harvard itself to produce first-ever, scientifically documented UFO/UAP phenomena. I was following it closely and eagerly awaiting any peer reviewed data they have produced.
Does anyone know if they found anything? Will wait here patiently 😄
My review of NixiHost! (spoiler alert - not great)
Hi all,
I wanted to leave a word of warning here for anyone interested in getting started with NixiHost. I heard great things about them here on Reddit, so I gave them a try - but my experience was dismal, and I'll be looking for a new hosting provider soon.
The first thing I'd like to address was the (lack) of support received from NixiHost after creating support tickets using their website chat feature (the chat in the lower right hand corner of the screen). I created 3 or 4 tickets, but I never got a reply (for any one of them) - either in the chat, or via email follow-up. I had to eventually email them directly to get a reply. It was very frustrating to create 3 or 4 individual tickets with detailed descriptions of my problem, never to hear back at all.
Secondly, at some point (a few weeks ago) I had tried to log into my account, and couldn't - I contacted support via email, and they had no idea what was going on, or how to fix it. I figured out the issue myself - it was the fact that our geolocation was outside of the USA. This was so strange to us, since we CREATED the account from outside of the USA (without the use of a VPN). When we told this to the (clueless) email support rep, all they said was "That is unexpected behavior" (great job dev team).
Cut to today, and I decided I don't want to use Nixi anymore - so I let them know (and they acknowledged that they received my request to cancel their service) - but despite this, they are now charging me a late fee of $10 (despite their email explicitly saying the following exact words - "If this account is no longer needed, please contact us by submitting a ticket so that the account can be canceled and this invoice voided."). I DID contact them (by replying to their email) - and that DID create a ticket - but they didn't cancel my account OR void the invoice.
What a pain in the arse. They come off as some kind of trendy, hipster, "boutique" hosting service - what they actually are is unprofessional, contradictory, and a hassle to deal with. They are rather cheap, and I suppose you get what you pay for. Next time I'll be trying out one of the bigger hosting platforms.
