My First Staghorns!

I’ve been lurking on this sub for a few months, while growing more and more obsessed with Staghorns. I finally took the leap and ordered these two little guys from an Etsy seller who was holding a sale this past weekend.

Meet Jade Girl and Ridleyi Dwarf!

The seller’s note said to keep them in these cups for at least two weeks, but I kind of love how cute and convenient the cups are, so I’ll probably keep them in for as long as feasibly possible. I think it’ll be easy to water them by just filling the cup up with water to cover the root ball to give it a soak whence they dry out.

Anyway I’m super thrilled to finally have Staghorns of my own, and I just hope I don’t kill them! 🤞🏾

A few months ago when we got a lot of rain in SoCal, I moved my shelf of different Cereus Peruvianus cacti to my patio table under the awning. Afterwards, all of the cacti looked like the photos, with this white film all over their lengths. I first sprayed them all with chinosol several times a week, then seeing no change, insecticidal soap mixed with 50% alcohol three times over two weeks, then tried rubbing them down with a clean rag and 70% alcohol, and then gave them their semi-annual systemic insecticide treatment in March.

Since then, 2 of the 6 have gone back to normal, but I still have three that look like they’ve yet to recover at all, and a fourth that still has the white film, but also has new growth which seems unaffected. The three that have yet to recover have shown no signs of new growth, though one of them is growing a side pup that seems fine.

Anyone know what this is and how I can treat it?
