Species ID

Appreciate experts here able to ID this platy species. Based on the price it should be normal bifurcutum however the fertile frond are so white which got me curious.

Species ID??

I’m not sure if it’s possible as it’s on the younger side but very curious if anybody could ID the platycerium species / narrow down?!

Please help. Is it dying?

First photo is from March 7th. Second photo is today. Leafs have been dying off.

I live in San Diego, CA. I shower the staghorn on my shower for about 5 minutes every other week or so. I wait until I see the leafs start to droop.

My friend gave this to me before he moved about a year ago and it has been happy until about a month ago. I showed my friend and he recommended that I give it a piece of a banana peel.

What am I doing wrong? What should I do? This guy is 13 years old.

Advice - do I need to split my fern?

I am weirdly obsessed with this staghorn, I’ve had it as a houseplant for about 5 years. Originally mounted to tree fern. The treefeen is mounted to the metal basket to make it easy to hang. Now I’m wondering if it is getting too big for it’s mount?

  1. should I split it and remount each?
  2. Just try and add more tree fern
    or
  3. leave it alone it’s fine lol

Any advice or comments are appreciated. I live in new England/MA so most of the time the fern lives in our bathroom area inside. It’s only out because it is summer

To split or not to split

Hi! This is my first mounted staghorn and it's two years old.

After a couple of weeks reading this subreddit posts, I realized that I got plant's orientation wrong and that I've actually mounted three plants.

Should I split these three ferns and correct their orientation or let them fight for their lives?

Thanks in advance!

Is this a Platycerium?

I bought this from an Etsy seller, who I’ve since learned sells mislabeled plants at discount prices to naive newbies. Oh well, you only live once!

This was sold as a Foong SiQi, but now that I have seen pictures of young Foong SiQi’s, I’m pretty sure it’s something else entirely. I couldn’t even find a growth point, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not a Platycerium at all.

Seeing as I’m still very new to collecting platy’s, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what this plant may be? Is it even a platycerium? If so, what kind?

TIA for any and all guesses/help!

First attempt mounting

Not 100% sure how this mounting system will perform long term but we will see.

Advice about this mounting

I’ve found this stag in a nursery. Is this a good setup or it will be better to mount it on a board?

Breaking up this root ball?

I got this staghorn several weeks ago potted in soil in a hanging basket. I want to mount it but I’m afraid of breaking up this root ball. The outer part is easy to shake the soil out but the inner part feels like a plug almost? I’m afraid I am going to destroy the roots and kill it if I keep breaking it up. Help?

First timer

Got this Platycerium wandae at the grocery store yesterday and have since repotted it in a mixture of Spaghnum moss and coco chips. Planning to mount it in an orchid basket soon and seeking advice- is it already in the correct orientation for mounting? Would its current ‘chair’ shape affect its future growth shape? Would a dilute solution of orchid fertiliser benefit it after establishment?

Is It Self Splitting?

For context: my 1yo fern suffered greatly from hurricane milton and moving. throw in a scale infestation and i think i came close to losing it. it looks so much better, but nothing like its hey day, but now it looks like it is splitting. is that a thing?

My bifurcatum is a mess 😭

I literally just got it along with another five different plants and I have very little idea on this bifurcatum and I have no idea what to do about it because it is actually such a mess and it's putting up normally right now and I don't know how I'm going to mount it if it's so messy. And sadly this is my first one and I'm not trying to kill it, especially because I know how dangerous separation can be and that's cuz I am a little bit clumsy sometimes so I have no idea what to do about this

Life after remounting

I remounted this Staghorn a couple of months ago because she was looking real tired on the old board.

She’s absolutely thriving today. A new shield is growing at rapid pace and her fronds are glowing.

Her wingspan is around 1.3m

I’ve linked the previous mountain post below for comparison.

Is my fern dead?

I own this staghorn fern, which is in less than optimal conditions, and finally have time to try and save it. But i want to ask first: is it already just dead?

For the first time in forever i have placed it in water, as seen on the picture.
