A lot of you kept posting discord links for your own server, so we made an official Discord for r/makenewfriendsNL. Same idea as the sub, adults (18+) making platonic friends in the Netherlands.

What you can do there

• Introduce yourself with a short form. Your intro gets a button so people can start a private chat with you (you accept first).
• Coffee Roulette: join once and every Monday you're matched with someone new, preferably from your region or with the same hobbies. Learning Dutch? You can ask to be matched with a Dutch speaker.
• Plan meetups for coffee, a walk, board games or a concert. People can say they're going, chat in a thread, and get a reminder the day before.
• Regional channels for North, East, North-Holland, South-Holland, Utrecht and South, plus channels for hobbies, gaming and expat help.
• Small extras: a question of the day, trivia, a monthly photo theme, and you earn stroopwafels for chatting that you can spend on a name color.
• Promote your own server in the server-promo channel. Discord links are still not allowed here on the sub, so that's the place for it.

Same rules apply

The community guidelines count on Discord too, platonic only, no NSFW, respect boundaries. If something feels off, there's a report button that goes straight to the mods, and only you and the mods can see it.

I have now made several changes based on the ideas and concerns shared by the community.

The subreddit now has clear official rules, post guidelines and post flairs. Posts should include age, general location, interests and what kind of friendship someone is looking for.

I have also added clearer rules about platonic friendships, sexual content, spam, low effort posts, catfishing, external community promotion and respecting peoples boundaries.

New post flairs are now available to make posts easier to find and understand. I have also updated some moderation tools and removed outdated external website promotion from the automatic comments.

These changes are not necessarily final. We will continue to look at what works, what causes problems and what the community needs.

Please read the rules before posting. If you notice suspicious behaviour, unwanted messages or anything unsafe, contact the moderators through modmail.

Thanks everyone for giving your feedback in the previous post. I have read the comments and used the community ideas as a base for the new rules and guidelines.

The goal of this subreddit is to help people find real and platonic friendships in the Netherlands. We want to make this a safe and fun place where people can meet each other.

The official community rules can now be found in the rules section of the subreddit. Please read them before posting or commenting.

How to format your post

Please include your age, gender and location in the title.

Example:

25F Utrecht looking for friends to game or go out with

Your title does not have to look exactly like this, but your age and general location should be easy to find.

In the post itself please tell people a bit about yourself. You can talk about your hobbies, interests, personality and what kind of friendship you are looking for.

Please include:

Your age

Your gender if you are comfortable sharing it

Your city, province or general area

Your hobbies and interests

What kind of friends or activities you are looking for

If you prefer online contact, meeting in person or both

You do not need to share your exact location, address, workplace, phone number or any other private information.

Posts with almost no information, only a picture or only asking people to DM you can be removed. Please put some effort into your post so people have something to start a conversation with.

Comments

When you are interested in someone, please introduce yourself a little or explain why you think you might get along.

Comments which only say “DM me” can be removed.

Please respect the preferences and boundaries someone mentions in their post. Do not keep contacting someone when they have told you no or stopped responding.

Safety

Please be careful when meeting people from the internet.

Meet in a public place the first time

Tell someone you trust where you are going

Do not send money to strangers

Check tickets or bookings directly with the company or location

Do not feel pressured to share pictures or personal information

Take your time before moving the conversation to another platform

Report suspicious behaviour to the moderators through modmail

The moderators cannot see everything which happens in private messages. Please contact us when someone is acting inappropriate, dishonest or unsafe.

Moderation

Posts and comments which do not follow the subreddit rules can be removed.

Depending on what happened, someone can receive a warning, temporary ban or permanent ban.

The rules and guidelines might be updated later when we notice new problems or receive useful feedback from the community.

Hello everyone, I am the new mod on this subreddit. As I've seen many weird posts and also concerns about the state of the sub, I signed up to try and work together with the community to make the sub about what it's intended to do. And also to have the mod team a bit more active as it used to be. I saw a post last week talking about flairs and idea's. So I am going to ask for people's recommendations what they would like to see as an improvement, let me know in this post.

I will also enforce existing rules and remove posts that are not welcome here. I hope we can make this community a safe fun place for people to meet each other.
