How would you compare Osimhen's performance last year compared to this year?

He still is a one man army and is often unplayable and elite, but how do you compare his performance with that of last year's? It did feel like last year's performance was simply outrageous and at a level I had never seen in my life. Every single game he seemed like he would pull something out of this world, one game he is putting in a bicycle kick goal the next he runs past 2 defenders in the box with the ball glued to his forehead and after that he scores goals out of thin air. And I also remember him being more clinical and falling less on offside. What are your thoughts on that?

I am a strong believer than any individual, no matter how talented, needs to have competition to thrive and need to be always on edge and never too comfortable to get to their optimal performance. How would that work in the case of Osimhen?

Learn from "rival" fans, you may have grievances or disagreements, but be classy.

This is a callout for our fans: look at what happenned to FB this season, the key breaking points, and take lessons from it.

FB fans did not like En-Nesyri, but it was still their only striker and he was banging goals. But the dislike from the fans came to a point where they started rooting against him and mocking him, degrading him, became vicious and stopped supporting him. And there were some reports that it's because of the treatment he was given by the fans that he asked to leave. And that's how their club was left basically without a striker and their board failed to provide a good replacement. Another lesson : things do not always get better and go higher. And their striker situation was one of the main reasons they lost the championship.

Look at the treatment made to some of their important players and how they left the club, how it leaves them without ambassadors like our players (look at the post-contract connection of Taffarel, Muslera, Mertens, Lemina - after his first spell -, Sneijder, Arda and Drogba, just to name a few), how they become influential and put out a good word for us and become part of the club culture.

Look at what happenned with their Ederson debacle : do you think it's a pure coincidence that week(s) after his wife and child got mobbed and insulted on social media by their fans he made game-losing outrageous mistakes that are unexplicable from a keeper of his caliber which cost them the championship? No, I don't believe it's a coincidence, you just have to put 2 and 2 together. Now there are reports about how he is sitting on his contract and claiming every single dime of it which seems to be done out of spite.

It reminds me of this concept of "zone of incertitude" in organizational sociology that postulates that in a system every single individual possesses "zones of incertitudes", areas of actions that you cannot control and regulate where they have autonomy and can f*ck you over if they feel like they are being treated unfairly.

So, you might have disagreements, you may have grievances with certain players or the staff or the manager, but as a fanbase we should express those with class. We should not take up on social media to start mobbing them.

We should show some grattitude and some recognition to a manager that brought us 4 titles in a row, taking us from the slumps of 13th place to 4 championship in a row, breaking countless historical records and bringing us all the way to UCL last 16.

We should recognize that Icardi played almost the entirety of his second season with injections despite his injury and put his health and career on the line for us to win that championship whereas he could have taken the decision to preserve and protect himself and his form by taking the decision to focus on his rehabilitation and health and think of himself. A sacrifice that had a snowball effect and which one can argue that it laid the foundation for his ligament tear, which is something 90% of players (especially of his age) won't come back to their previous form from it.

We should realize that Kaan Ayhan acted unselfishly and very gracefully and sacrificed himself by accepting to play and do his best as fullback (because the board left us without one) when he likely knew very well that he was not suited for that position requiring lots of agility and speed and that he is not familiar playing down the line.

We should recognize the mid-long term impact Ilkay will have for us, for the club brand. He might just become the next Terim and the next Okan Buruk.

All and all to say, mentionning grievances and disagreement is one thing, actively rooting and campaigning against the staff and players is another, which is caused by many's miscomprehension of "we have a culture of being critical", and what happenned to FB this season should serve as the perfect lesson. We should embrace the See something, say something motto when some "fans" are harming the club with their attitude and behaviour. Let's have some class towards our players and staff. Let's show that we are different.

First on the performance side : I was expecting more, but I guess I understand that the guy is 35-36 yrs old and that physicality was never one of his strength (compared to Mertens for example who always had been a physical specimen).

But I am moreso wondering about the locker room presence and his leadership in the team. Gundogan was always a giant locker room character in the teams where he was, he is very well articulated, very intelligent and always had great presence. However, I didn't see much of that at GS. But maybe he was and I just missed it and maybe it just wasn't very visible publicly and through social media, and not that he seemed bad, just that it seemed mild compared what I've seen his whole career (like this for example : https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xSlJL4LUut4 ). I also do recognize that our team does have HUGE characters, but still.

So, what was your impression of the impact of Ilkay's presence on the team (leadership-wise)?

Edit : and how bizarre is it that Buruk didn't give much nudges or made much references to Ilkay this year? I absolutely am of the opinion that with the wealth of experience he has at the highest level, with his game intelligence and having been Guardiola's close pupil for so long that he should be on the coaching staff and that him and Buruk would have a bromance, but I didn't get such a sense this year. Didn't hear much from Buruk's interviews this year to any reference to Ilkay. How odd is that?

What happenned in the derby by the federation was the most blatant case of hit job, sabotage and corruption. Their message was actually this : I'll sabotage you and gaslight you by :

  • appointing the worst ref possible, which already did the most terrible officiating I have seen in years in the away derby;
  • whereas he does not even have a FIFA badge;
  • whereas there are more qualified referees such as Halil Umut Meler with their FIFA badges;
  • and to add insult to injury, I'll even also appoint Abdullah Buğra Taşkınsoy as the AVAR, the geographical offside guy.

And their message doing that gaslighting was : "I'll fkcng put a hit job for everyone to see in daylight because I can do anything and nothing is gonna happen, so you better bend a knee and submit to me and kiss the ring".

This TFF administration is acting like a f*ckng bandit and thug organization, which is not surprising considering this president is one that acted like a common gangster a few years ago taking referees as hostages for several hours after a game. If it's fair game for him to do it, and now that he's the elected president of the federation, maybe we should follow his lead and do the same?

So why does it seem like our board is not doing much about what happenned during the derby? Felt like they crossed a red line. Just because we won, have they gone radio silent (besides that communcation they posted)? We won, but I am still not over what happenned and I am still furious about it.

I think the majority of the fanbase is of the same idea. Icardi is a legend, brought so much to the club, made huge sacrifices, is a dominant character in the dressing room, but that he doesn't seem focus, that he wasn't able to get back to his previous fitness level, that he has a lot of distractions in his life, and that for the salary that he is currently getting paid we should maybe not continue with him, especially in a squad where Osimhen is there. We all agree on that.

But look at it this way : look at the top elite striker shortage in modern football. There is such a scarcity of strikers that tier 1 and tier 2 clubs are still playing +35 yrs old strikers. Lewa still playing at 37, Dzeko at 40, Benzema, Giroud and Aubameyang playing and still many top European clubs would consider signing them, because there are simply no proper options for elite strikers. And we have Icardi who still could play until 36-37 years old, for another 3-4 years easily, especially considering his poacher profile. I mean Inzaghi made a career out of touching the ball a handful number of times and scoring tap ins. In such a global and market context, when the guy has his fee in his hand and is here, wouldn't it be wiser, despite all the cons (because we know the list is long), to extend him?

I am not saying that it should be a 10M contract, nor that we'll ever see 99 Icardi again (heck he is 33 and tore his ACL after one year of playing injured with injections) but what about maybe 3-4M contract with bonuses on top of it? Provided that of course with the proper motivation and security he would show a better form than the previous games (yes, he is horrendous right now, frustrating and we came to a point where we basically are better off playing Baris as striker...). But what's the option? Strikers like that brazilian what's his face that we had on a loan that I forgot his name?

Wouldn't we regret it if we were to see Icardi balling at a top tier team for several more years if he were to leave?

I am moreso just being contrarian and exploring the other side of the view that is mostly dominant in the fanbase, thought it would make a good discussion topic.

P.S. Or the alternative : we start playing Singo as a back up striker😃
