Field Modifications Overhaul

Field Modifications Overhaul

Tired of all the AI generated garbage so I figured I'd throw in my two cents.

I'd really like to see an overhaul of the field modification station that has visual additions to the tank for what's changed. Lets take this BT I mocked up.

Changing the hull MG for an HV version?

Spare track wheels to reduce track chance, or reduce the health require a lower health threshold to repair them.

Spare tracks over the front to increase armor by a flat 0.5%?

AA 20mm on top?

Muzzle brake to reduce inaccuracy after firing?

No clue how much anything should cost. All I know is this would be a hell of a lot more interesting than 12.5% more health per tier.

Settling the Tank Debate

We solved this debate years ago, please consult this handy chart for the absolute authority on what is (or isn’t) a tank. At least, according to world chat.

A case for cheap fighters.

Airborne’s biggest issue by far has been accessibility. Their monumental entry cost when paired with their fragility is driving some unpleasant game play. We’ve established planes should not be very strong. We’ve established planes should be fragile. So, to match that, I implore the developers to give in and make them appropriately cheap, shifting the cost to the pilots.

It seems that the driving factor for expensive planes is to incentivize recovery of wrecked aircraft. This works, yes, but in a way that isn’t fun for the players. They are practically forced to recover the airframe because of the time invested in making it, and to keep everything private, meaning the entire mechanic only ever exists as a chore.

I suggest removing the rare metal cost and the rare cost only, and putting it instead into pilot uniforms. At one rare metal per uniform, the bottleneck becomes pilots instead of air frames, and this has a few knock on effects.

With planes being cheap and utilizing only predictable resources, industry can afford to make public airframes. While unusable without a pilot uniform, they make the loss of an aircraft in an accident far less punishing, and replacement of a lost airframe easy.

With pilot uniforms being expensive, players are actually incentivized to bail out of their aircraft, or ditch barely airworthy aircraft to survive. Say what you will about “getting run over.” This will produce a much healthier airborne gameplay loop. And the concern can also be solved by refunding the uniform if you are killed by a team-mate.

To prevent aircraft litter, planes should despawn if damaged and left alone for more than a day. But, with airframes being public and tank value, anyone can salvage wrecked planes in a timely manner instead of getting frustrated that the regiment that’s claimed it isn’t coming to get it and helpless to save it. This allows those who want to recover aircraft to be allowed to, without forcing the task on people who are uninterested.

Lastly, more aircraft overall paired with more accessible aircraft will massively increase airfield traffic. As of now, you cannot simply walk up to an airfield and ground crew unless a regiment is running a death stack. Most airfields are ghost towns. Having more planes means more action at airfields for the people who want to service planes. Additionally, more planes in the air also means a much higher chance of intercepting deep-penetration flights, significantly cutting down on backline one way trip shenanigans.

Quad Headlight Hi-Beam Flicker

For anyone who might encounter this issue on their squarebody, the solution is a high quality ACDELCO (OEM Manufacturer) headlight switch. Hopefully this will save someone the grief I went through.

I had a persistent issue with my headlights starting to flicker intermittently after being on for about 5 minutes, and this did not affect the low beams or the marker lights. After a brand new wiring harness (to fix 40 years worth of wire-nut “fixes”), I was incredibly frustrated to find the issue was not resolved.

As it turns out, the cheap Chinese reproductions are built with a lower quality thermal circuit breaker. It can handle the amperage of single headlights all day long, but it will be overloaded by the dual headlight setups and render your high beams unusable. If you need to replace the switch, buy a proper OEM part. One ACDelco switch later and the headlight issue that convinced me to re-wire the truck is resolved. (It also made the dash illumination noticeably brighter, which is a nice plus)

Friendly reminder of false advertising

This is no longer possible and hasn't been for years. Thanks Devs.

To block off or not to block off?

There’s a lot of debate on the old two strokes as to whether you should block off the oil pump and pre-mix.

On the one hand, you eliminate the possibility of an oil injection failure killing your engine.

On the other, you lose the convenience of filling up at a marina like a 4 stroke.

Which do you prefer?
