25F, anyone want to go on a walk with my golden puppy and I?

Making friends is hard, making friends working from home is even harder 😭 So, here I am putting some feelers out into the universe to see if anyone wants to make a new friend or bestie! I'm open to friends of any gender, and location wise, I live near Wrigley Field😊

A bit about me, I'm a 420 friendly software engineer at a fintech, I love plants, music, and my pets (I have 2 cats and a golden retriever, puppy tax included!). I also have a plethora of random hobbies I pick up and drop like side quests (painting, aerial yoga, reading, poetry, baritone ukulele, etc). I love listening to emo, alt rock, and indie mainly. I would describe myself as very sweet, bubbly, nerdy, and caring. The golden retriever friend who happens to also have a golden retriever puppy lol.

I think my ideal friend/best friend is someone kind who I can be silly and goofy with. I'm the type of person that gets excited at the small random things, and it would be great to have someone who finds my bubbly, giddy self endearing. My fatal flaw is that I'm a slow walker (short legs, I'm sorry 😭)! I'm also pretty ADHD, so I like.. can't get through a movie without a break or two to meander around. Totally understand if those are deal breakers though lol. I also love deep convos about life, the universe, psychology, or pretty much anything! I'll stop rambling, but if you think we may click, definitely send me a message! 😊

My landlord came into my home when I explicitly told him not to

Update: I'm so fucking grossed out. He went into my bedroom closet. What kind of a man goes into a woman's apartment when she's not there and goes into her CLOSET?!? I never shut my closet door since my cat has a bed in it, it's an accordion closet door so it literally needs to be pulled to the right by someone to shut it, it was shut and has never once been shut and certainly wasn't shut when I left. He also inexplicably moved my sheet pan on top of my fridge so it almost bonked me on the head when I went to open the freezer door since I wasn't expecting it. But him going into my apartment after I told him not to and going into my closet is grossing me the fuck out.

My landlord .. isn't great. I didn't have a functional washer/dryer for 6+ months because he "didn't put the hose in by accident" so it would just spurt water when turned on, I've been left without heat in the winter in the negatives with my animals for 12+ hours, my dishwasher doesn't work right because the seal is broken and he just says it's fine, my microwave died and hasn't been replaced, and I've had the same broken window since I moved in last October and it was going to be "fixed in the spring" and that never happened. He stopped by last week to glance at the window and microwave and said he'd be back to replace it at some point.

I texted this morning that I also bought a replacement part for the dishwasher and if he could pls install it when he comes with the new microwave and window. I got a text at 8pm that maintenance was at the building and wants to stop by and asked if I'm fine with them entering if I'm not home. I immediately replied that I'm usually home but tonight I'm not and asked them to please not enter and to swing by next time he's at the building doing maintenance.

I just got home and saw my deadbolt was locked. I never lock the deadbolt, I only ever lock the bottom lock, so I know he entered my home after I literally told him not to. He didn't give any notice besides that text in the portal that I immediately replied to. I pay $2200+ for this apartment. This sucks and I feel weirded out that he was here without me home (and didn't even fix anything?! So wtf was he doing here!). Ugh.

My 5mo golden just started her first heat. Is it still okay to throw a ball in the fenced courtyard?

Hi all! This is my first dog and I feel like I'm reading conflicting things so I'm confused. my dog is in training and the training staff said they'd get back to me on how to proceed (by using a fence during class or postponing or something based on what the trainer says).

She's a golden so she has a lot of energy, I was wondering if it's still okay to play with her in the fenced courtyard of my building? Or if I need to keep her essentially literally quarantined inside besides for a quick on leash potty break?

I've read that dogs can smell her from up to 3 miles away and that in tact dogs scale fences/dig to get to a dog in heat, but when I asked the vet office over the phone whether or not I should avoid taking her on walks they seemed confused so I'm not sure? They only mentioned no boarding/daycare. I just want to be sure I'm keeping her safe while also giving her some sort of physical outdoor exercise if possible, but I understand if that's not, I just want to be sure I'm not endangering her!

5mo old puppy getting exceedingly pickier

Hi all, I have a 5 (almost 6) month old golden retriever puppy. She's always been pretty picky in terms of her food, but it's gotten worse and worse. It went from being able to use her Wholesomes large breed puppy kibble for training, to her spitting it out outside and refusing to eat it as a training treat, to her refusing to eat the kibble at all. She'll eat the topper and any treats I add in the food, but won't touch the kibble.

Worried that I might have gotten a bad batch, I immediately bought a diff food (Acana wholesome grains) and she liked that a tiny bit more and ate some of it the past few days and yesterday yesterday, but then got picky again today and wouldn't touch it. I even bought "Just Food for Dogs" fresh food as a topper and she liked that yesterday and devoured the sample yesterday in store, then I tried to use some as a topper for her kibble and mixed it in and that got her eating it. But today, she's again being picky af and not eating it even with the topper mixed in. I'm worried about her and have a vet appointment booked, but she's fine with treats and stuff, just isn't a fan of kibble atm. I feel like she should be way hungrier rn! Does anyone have any suggestions for their picky puppies?

Which cleaning product is best for super gross dishes to make them clean/sanitary again?

Hi all, I have super bad ADHD and am trying to figure out systems that work for me. I've noticed every once in a while, I'll leave a dish out way too long with food in it and it gets gross and then I don't want to clean it, and usually end up throwing it away entirely.

This also applies with cups, water bottles, and things that I drink from when they're in the sink and food particles inevitably get in there when I'm rinsing dishes in the sink. It makes me feel like the cup is gross and then I don't want to drink from it again because it doesn't feel clean enough to me even after I run it through the dishwasher. I feel like I'm going to taste food remnants or something 😅

I use dawn power wash to wash the dishes and a cascade pod for the dishwasher. Besides the obvious of washing dishes more frequently, is there anything I can use that will deep clean dishes and sanitize them or make them feel clean again?

Edit: thank you for the advice everyone! From all the comments, I've done some digging and have figured out I think the issue is my dishwasher. I live in a heavy water area, so rinse aid is needed and my rinse aid compartment is broken. I've ordered a replacement part, dishwasher salt (for hard water), dishwasher powder (since it seems the pods get dissolved too early sometimes), and will clean the filter + nozzles. Thanks all!

Is grain free puppy food actually bad? I have Celiac Disease

Hi all, I'm reposting this from the golden retriever subreddit since she's a puppy so I figured this may be a good place to check as well.

I've been feeding my 4 month old 25lb golden retriever puppy Lola Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy food. But I have Celiac Disease so I'm allergic to gluten (barley, wheat, rye), and I have a pretty rough case of it symptoms wise. I've had Lola for 3 weeks, and I've been feeling progressively sicker these past few weeks as I've been training her with the kibble and handling it, which then gives me symptoms.

I didn't connect the dots at first, but I've been getting weaker and weaker, feeling exhausted. Celiac leads to malnutrition when you're getting gluten exposure, and I knew my vitamin levels were dropping since I'm not feeling well and am covered in bruises and am in pain, but last night I started hurling and have been shivering and sweating and unable to sleep I've been feeling so awful that confirmed the gluten to me, and when checked the label I realized I've been accidentally poisoning myself.

Is grain free okay to feed her? I love her more than anything, I'm trying to figure out what the best food is for her that's ideally gluten free so I won't get sick. That being said, I really want to get perspective since I'm a first time dog owner and don't want to mess anything up.

Edit: found one! It has grains, but no gluten (as far as I can tell)! Wholesomes Large Breed Puppy Dry Dog Food

Is grain free puppy food actually bad? I have Celiac Disease

Hi all, this is my adorable golden puppy Lola! I've been feeding her Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy food. But I have Celiac Disease so I'm allergic to gluten (barley, wheat, rye), and I have a pretty rough case of it symptoms wise. Because of that, I've been feeling progressively sicker these past few weeks as I've been training her with the kibble and handling it, which then gives me symptoms.

Celiac leads to malnutrition when you're getting gluten exposure, and I knew my vitamin levels were dropping since I'm not feeling well and am covered in bruises and am in pain, but last night I started hurling and have been shivering and sweating and unable to sleep I've been feeling so awful 😞 that confirmed the gluten to me, and when I checked the label I realized I've been accidentally poisoning myself.

Edit: I really don't want this to end up being a debate on whether or not my autoimmune disease is actually triggered by this. I'm very careful with gluten and haven't had an episode in a long, long time. It's only after I started handling the puppy food that I started getting sicker and getting symptoms. Plus, the hurling so bad my vocal chords are vibrating + extreme fatigue + bruising + sweating/shivering combo + muscle pain is very typical of my Celiac when I have been exposed to gluten.

With celiac disease, the equivalent of one single crumb of bread (1/350th of a piece of bread) over the course of an entire day is enough to cause damage and lead to symptoms. I'm touching the food/treats, then feeding them to her, it's in my pocket, it's in the training pouch, etc. Yes, I wash my hands a lot (to the point where I've had to start using a gluten free hand cream since my skin was getting so red and irritated from the frequent washes). But, the likelihood of being exposed to the equivalent of a single crumb of that over the course of the day (plus the constant, repeated exposures to gluten) when im petting her and running my hands through her fur and then I inevitably give the top of her head little kisses because she's adorable lol.. is pretty high. Either way, I'm experiencing symptoms, so no I'm not eating it, but yes I am sensitive to gluten and getting exposed to it.

Edit #2: I found a puppy food that's gluten free but NOT grain free! Thank you all for your help!

Help with barking/yelping when she isnt by me

Hi all, I just brought my 12 week old golden Emmy home on Friday and she's both the love of my life and a total gremlin haha. Do you guys have any advice about how to help with her yelping/barking/whining if she's left gated while awake? I work from home and sometimes have her baby gated in the kitchen where she can still see me working from 10 feet away, but it's like she doesn't want to not be by me, and I can't turn my eye from her for a second so I sometimes need her gated there. She is fine if she's asleep, she's totally chill there napping right now. Same with her crate, she's fine when she's chilling asleep or if I put her in and tuck her into her blanket and wait for her to fall asleep. But if her eyes are open and she's not by me, she has a big issue with it. Same with if I'm on the bed and she's in her crate nearby. Have you found a good solution with your golden? Thank you so much!
