What is a good safe city for a solo male in South America for the first time?

I had my heart and mind set on Medellin initially, planned some trips I would like to take, some time in Bogota, some nights in Salento hiking and seeing the coffee fincas. Then I heard about scopolamine. I'm there to explore and get out of the city by day, and I won't be out every night drinking as I that's not my thing, but I don't want to feel confined to my hotel in the evenings for fear of going for a few drinks on my own and looking like a target. I was looking at staying in Laureles or Envigado and avoiding El Poblado entirely as I'm not one for clubs or mad nightlife or seedy stuff. I'd rather be in a quiet local bar with an older crowd watching people salsa etc. Would I be safer if I avoided La 70 for example? Would you advise against Medellin/Colombia as a first time visitor to LA? If so, where might you suggest? I want to hike in beautiful surroundings, eat decent street food, learn some Spanish by day, not get drugged and murdered by night (no disrespect)

Thanks!

Is scopolamine still a problem in Medellin?

Planning my first trip to South America solo, few nights in Bogota, four nights in Salento then a few weeks in Medellin. I've just now heard about scopolamine and it's shit me up and has me questioning everything.

I'm not there to party, or drink, I'd be staying in Envigado or Laureles with no intention to go to El Poblado are be involved in any seedy shit. That said, I will likely find myself having a few drinks solo in the evening, in someplace away from the chaos and now I'm wondering if I'm setting myself to get done over? I want to spend my days exploring and taking day trips out of the city but I don't want to feel like I can't go and enjoy myself alone for a few hours at night.

I'm not there for women, alcohol, drugs etc - I asked on the Medellin sub and got banned, mods are certified weirdos over there.

A quick question about AirBnb in Medellin

I got banned immediately from the Medellin sub for asking -

"Are there any AirBnbs left in Laureles or Envigado that still allow for a guest?". I've no idea why.

I (UK) am spending a month in Medellin in February/March with a view to returning in the future. My friend (US) may be passing through in the same month and I am hoping to host him for a few days at most.

I read something about not being allowed guests in most/all places? Thanks for any help!

Is this cutting it too fine?

I'm looking at this flight and wondering what happens if I miss the connection? Am I just out of pocket and I have to then find my own onward travel? I wouldn't have any checked baggage to think about claiming, I'd have to get through customs/transfers though and I've no idea how efficient Canadian airports are vs my local (Manchester) which is one of the worst in the UK. Thanks.

To the person at the 11:30 Odyssey showing, who had a word with the guy on his phone very early on, I thank you.

Don't get out with my Pops much but we had this booked for ages and right in our eyeline, the guy a few rows infront to our right was immediately on his phone, scrolling whatsapp and social media after spending £22 on a ticket and probably double that on food. Not sure what he said back but I salute you for nipping it in the bud early for us all 🫡

How are these awful buskers allowed on Market Street?

There is a women out there just shouting in to a mic. She's not singing. I dont know what she's doing but it's awful. I'm sat in Halifax and it's all you can hear.

Absolute noise nuisance and should be nowhere near a public highstreet.

EDIT - To clarify... I'm not asking or suggesting a ban on busking. I encourage normal busking, but without massive speakers and Mr Motivator headsets like they are giving a TED talk at Harvard.

What that lady was doing earlier was disgusting, it's not a race thing. I'd have taken somebody butchering Total Eclipse Of The Heart any day. Nobody was interacting with her and I couldn't make out most of what she was saying, she wasn't even collecting as I didn't see a bucket. I only had an hour of it but the staff in Halifax had that shite all day and I can see people in the comments are familiar with this exact type.

Dear Big Bev, please address this.

First Medicann Order - Superboof, Alaskan Thunder & Mimosa

Happy with my selection. Superboof and Alaskan Thunder have a good nose. The Mimosa is muted but it's better than I was expecting for the price, smells a bit like the old juicy fruit chewing gums from the 90s.

Will edit the post once I've sampled them all. Can't fault the Medicann service. 10 days from first contacting them to flower in hand, smooth process.
