Tips for natural history, reptile, and marine life loving teen

Planning our visit for summer 2027 and have a very cool 13-yo kid who loves all things natural history. We always center our travel around a great museum, zoo, or aquarium. Would love recommendations on must-visit spots during our trip, and avoiding any places where ethical animal management seems suspect. TIA!

No rail between Worcester and Grafton (August 5 – 11)

Feeling like this isn't as widely known as it should be, so sharing this update re: commuter rail next week.

Link: https://www.mbta.com/news/2026-07-15/mbta-announces-august-service-changes

On the Framingham/Worcester Commuter Rail Line

The MBTA will perform critical infrastructure work on the Framingham/Worcester Line in August.

To accomplish this work, the following service suspension will take place:

Framingham/Worcester Line service will be suspended between Worcester and Grafton for seven consecutive days, August 5 – 11.

Free and accessible shuttle buses will replace service between Worcester and Grafton.

Riders using shuttles bus service should budget ample extra travel time. For example, a rider travelling to Grafton from Worcester should budget up to 25 minutes using the shuttle bus.

A dedicated diversion schedule will be available on MBTA.com/CR.

Duck man! 🦆

I met this man in Seaport today. The picture and man are so perfect it looks like AI, but just a lucky goofy moment. Does anyone know anything about this guy, the duck, or the pocket kitten?

UPDATE: Apparently his name is Justin Taymes, from RI, and this is his service duck, Dawn. She's been famous lately and led the Tartan Army parade in Providence.

Electricians?

Hello - we just had mini-splits installed and on the last day our HVAC company told us we need to find our own electrician to finish the wiring and update the fuse. Anyone have any recommendations for someone local and good?

I coned Keytar Bear

Incredible night in Boston. Amazing how many great encounters a pile of party hats from Michael’s would create.

Mercado on Shrewsbury

We're relatively new to Worcester and went to dinner at Mercado on Shrewsbury (the old Flying Rhino location). It wasn't very busy, which was surprising given the quality of the food and overall experience. Beautiful restaurant, very clean/well run-kitchen, and has a parking lot. We had a cocktail, shared six plates and two desserts, all for $120.

The service was fantastic and the food was even better. These were stand out dishes and I'm feeling pretty lucky to be able to go back. Would recommend for date night, girls night, and they did a great bowl of fries for our kiddo. Looks like they do lunch, dinner and brunch.

Hoping they do well!
