The Worcester Common is disgusting and I hate having to see it every day.

There's always rotten food on the ground, broken glass, overfilled trash cans, and empty nip bottles.

Anytime it gets cleaned, some assholes have to ruin it. I try to let the city know and all I get is "what do you want us to do about it?"

This is not a rant on the unhoused, it's the disgusting assholes that leave trash everywhere. Also, I hate seeing fights break out too.

One officer, one patrol car would do the trick, but.no one wants that shift.

Rant over. Do better Worcester.

enVision Hotel near DCU center

Hello. I am not a local but I'm coming down in October for silver scream con at the DCU center. I'm trying to find a hotel that is close to the center without having to spend $500 a night. This hotel says it's close but there are not any current reviews and the price is considerably less than all the other hotels less than a mile from the DCU so I'm skeptical. Figured the locals would have the best insight and tell me to stay away if it was totally horrible. Looking for any and all opinions. Thanks.

Looks like were getting a First Watch restaurant. Any reviews? Do you think they’ll last?

I find it interesting a chain breakfast restaurant is moving in when we have so many good local breakfast spots already.

Edit: i was curious on opinions. Ive never been to one, but id rather drive further out for Marvin’s corner lunch, broadway, Parkway, Belen’s or Sisters.

Freedom train 1976

I remember touring the Freedom Train when it was in Worcester during the Bicentennial celebration. It was parked by Nortons. Fun memory.

Homeless population

Maybe this is a privileged take, but I’m from Worcester and have been gone for a while for college, but I am back for the 4th, and have to drive through Worcester today. I drove through places like Kelley square and Chanler street and felt like the homeless population has exploded. Kelley square right by Worcester public market is a mess, and over by Antonio’s pizza is also bad. I feel like it’s been bad In the past but never this bad. Maybe I’m just not used to it anymore idk

I'm new to this city. That fireworks show was awesome.

I loved seeing the community out tonight; such a warm, diverse crowd. The live band that was playing was great, but then that opening salvo of fireworks to Thunderstruck that came after the countdown and light cut was so fucking hilariously absurd. I loved it.

Idgaf guys, Worcester is awesome. I love it here. I've been in New England my whole life and I've never been this stoked about where I live.

local dog shelters?

Hi, wondering if anyone knows of local dog shelters/rescues where you can go play with the dogs or take them out for a day? or open to any volunteering with dogs in general! Thanks!

Diva Down

I want to invite you and all of your friends to just outside the Newton Sq rotary tonight on for a candlelight vigil for the raccoon that has been decaying there for over a week now. This former mom was one so robust it looked like a dead dog. She is now merely a pile of skin, bones and maggots. She is forever in our hearts and has forever stained the street. Please join me at 9PM tonight to give her the respect our city has refused to give. Bring your candles, preferably very scented and perhaps a few kind words. In the off chance the city does decide to take action today we can move up the road a little bit to June St. There is a fat dead raccoon there as well that today began its transition to liquid. Please comment with what dish you will be bringing. I will have M&Ms.

Worcester 4th July fireworks at polar park

Hello all,

We wanted to watch the 4th of July fireworks in Worcester which is taking place at polar park tomorrow, however, I recently had a knee surgery, so walking/standing is out of the picture for me.

I was considering parking our car at some location near the park from where the fireworks would be visible, and Google recommended the Francis J. Mc Grath Municipal Parking Lot.

Would that be a good location to watch the fireworks??

Thank you!

Where is McGovern’s Progressive Machine?

As I watch young(er) progressives run & win elections all across this country on issues that matter to everyone, I am struck by the fact that in arguably the most Democratic state in the country with the OG Progressive Congressman, Jim McGovern, we have some of the most center right and older elected officials on the local and state level.

I’ve been told by many that McGovern controls Democratic (and general) politics in the area; but if that is the case then how is it that our City Council is so regressive? Bilotta & Ojeda are the only real progressive leaning ones. King is faux progressive at best.

On the state level we have real primary challengers from the right against O’Day & Keefe and young candidates like Lazarro in the 7th Worcester or Teabo in the Worcester and Hampshire Senate District get token support and are largely ignored by the party establishment.

Is this a failure of leadership? Is McGovern not really as powerful as people think? If he is powerful, why doesn’t he do more for development of and support for progressive candidates on the local and state level? Or are the big money/corporate Dems like Murray actually pulling the party strings and McGovern is staying quiet to keep his seat?

What are your thoughts, because I’m feeling nothing but disappointment in our progressive leaders in Massachusetts right now.

Percy’s July 4th promo

Did anyone else purchase any appliances from Percy’s when they had the promotion going for July 4th?

If it’s 92 or above out tomorrow the order is free.

My Samsung dryer crapped out last month. Wasn’t planning on having to get a new appliance but went with a new GE set.
Hoping the heat remains tomorrow!

Fireworks?

Hey guys,

Just moved to MA back in March and still getting used to everything. I live right near city hall and I have been hearing “fireworks” since i got here. Even back in May i would hear what sounded like a 10 minute firework show outside but obviously never saw anything. Now it’s right before July 4 and even past midnight I’m still hearing fireworks and my dog is pissed lmao. Am I missing something? Do people just shoot them off themselves?
