ICP and Kid Rock
We all know ICP and fellow and honestly former at this point Detroit Rapper Kid Rock have a history. They don't like each other, though the more sour end seems to come from Kid Rock whenever ICP gets mentioned. But I've noticed that despite their differences and beef, there are a few similarities to how they got so big. Now, I am a Juggalo but I also enjoy the early stages of Kid Rock's career, so anything after his debut Grits Sandwiches leading up to Devil Without A Cause. Here are the similarities between the artists I've found.
- They both got fucked over by Jive. Kid Rock's 1990 debut "Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast" was apparently not pushed and promoted for shit, according to his 1993 song "Back From The Dead." Same as ICP. Jive didn't push or promote "Riddle Box" in 1995. Except in Kid's case, they dropped him while ICP I think were bought out of their contract by Hollywood Records, but I'm not sure.
- They both had documentary releases in 1997. ICP had their documentary called "Shockumentary" that was aired by auctioned time slot by MTV meanwhile Kid Rock had released his own sort of documentary/live concert video called "Underrated & Unsung" which was just a compilation tape of old music videos, unseen concert footage, band rehearsal, and just random home video footage. A lot of it was Rock and Kracker with their boys getting drunk at a bowling alley, then it'll cut to a random music video.
- Kid Rock actually had a wicked stage show back in his underground era. I'm serious. Back in 97, he'd do a bit where he'd pretend to get shot on stage and a guy in a robe would put him in a coffin only for him to jump out of it for the next song. The whole concert is on YouTube, it's dope.
- This isn't really a similarity, I'm just surprised that ICP never thought about this idea first. Joe C. Think about it. You've got 2 wicked murderous serial killer clowns and then you've got the rapping rocking shit kicking trailer park pimp. The fact that ICP never thought about having a diminutive pint size backup hypeman and Kid Rock did just that surprises me.
So, that's all I got. I'm a Juggalo who likes Kid Rock. OLD Kid Rock. Fuck the country route he's taken over the last 20 years.
