Is she a BMC?

We rescued Lola back in October 2025 and she was listed as a Black Mouth Cur. I hadn't heard of the breed until we stumbled upon her. The more I dig through this sub, the less certain I am that she is a BMC lol.

What's the verdict?

Ongoing issues with anal glands expressing themselves

Our dog, Lola, has been experiencing ongoing anal gland troubles since we adopted her back in October 2025. She is a ~1.5 year old Black Mouth Cur mix, weighing about 70lbs.

Her vet manually expressed her glands during her first appointment after I shared concerns regarding a particular smell, and it turned out her glands were full. Very shortly after that visit (the same day, within an hour or two), her glands expressed themselves again.

Her vet didn't seem concerned about the glands and didn't give us much guidance at the time, so we assumed this was normal (first time dog parents). But, it's become an almost regular occurrence to the point where we have to protect our couch cushions with blankets so we can easily wash them when her glands inevitably express themselves. Sometimes days will go by with no noticeable issues. Other times, it can seem like a daily occurrence.

Today, we got her professionally groomed and had her glands expressed during that appointment. Again, within an hour of getting home, her glands expressed on the couch covers.

This isn't normal, right?

For some more context, we discovered Lola has a chicken intolerance within a month or two of rescuing her. Since we've adjusted her diet, her stool is a regular, solid consistency. However, she has always been the gassiest dog I've ever known lol.

Can you help me better understand what could be causing this?

From what I've found online, it sounds like this could be an infection, but other posts make this seem like a fairly common issue/nothing to worry about. But at the rate we're encountering this, I can't imagine it's normal for a dog to need their glands manually expressed daily.

(I have also emailed her vet who is closed over the weekend btw)
