Still failing at getting my stamper to pick up the patterns

Hi,

I am still having no luck getting my stamper to pick up any designs. I tried buying actual stamping polish, am holding the scraper at about 45 degrees, and I washed the silicone stamper with soap and water and fully dried it before trying. I am committed to getting this to work (especially because I maybe stupidly just ordered a 5 pack of Halloween stamping plates), but am getting desperate. I also bought a sticky base coat, but i don't know how that will help my initial problem of not even getting a pattern onto the stamp. I've read a bunch of posts, watched videos, but am hoping maybe someone has a magic trick for a beginner, that I have not yet found.

Hardware store acetone to clean plates?

I'm new to stamping, and trying to get myself psyched up to try, after initially rushing in and not reading up on it first. I am worried that I already messed things up, because I cleaned a plate with acetone that had a strengthening additive and lavender scent, before realizing I should use pure acetone. I've now wiped it down with regular acetone (but from a hardware store--its the only pure stuff we had)--is there anything else I should do to remove residue before trying to stamp again? And, I've read not to use the hardware stuff on my nails themselves, but is it ok for plate cleaning?

Fit critique?

Tried sizing down last week. I feel like they definitely looked less clunky and more natural, but they slid up under my cuticles a bit, which made me nervous about risking infections. It definitely made them look more seamless, and stopped hair getting snagged, but I don't want to end up causing damage.

Retail Brand: Impress short, some kind of pale pink color that I painted over with Mooncat Bloodbender.
