Was accepting this PhD offer a mistake?

Hi everyone. I'm an international student and I recently accepted a PhD offer at an R1 university in the US. Not an Ivy, but a well-regarded school. It was my first PhD application, and I got an offer, so maybe I said yes too quickly. Recently I found out that I'll have to spend spring and summer at a research station in another location, collecting data. The "town" has about 2,000 people, there's basically nothing there, and the station itself is in the middle of nowhere. When I looked it up, the crime rates seemed high, and as a woman moving alone to a new country, I'm honestly scared about my safety.

On top of that, my PI hasn't given me much information or support about housing, the department culture, or what my day-to-day work will actually look like. That makes everything feel more uncertain.Part of me thinks I should just go, see how it is, and keep applying to other programs in the meantime. If I can't adapt, I could leave. But I don't know if that's a reasonable plan or if I'm just anxious and overthinking.

I've already paid the visa taxes and now I'm waiting for my visa interview.

I'am scared.

Offering: Brazilian Portuguese; Seeking: English, German or Spanish

Hi! I'm 26F and I'd love to improve my English. I'd say my level is around B2/C1, but everything I know I learned by speaking, so I really need to work on sounding more natural and making fewer mistakes. I did one year of my master's in Germany, but my German is only around A2, since I only used it for simple daily tasks like going to the bakery or restaurants. I'd really like to go back to Germany for a PhD or postdoc, and maybe I can improve my German then. My Spanish is B2. Portuguese and Spanish have a very similar structure and share a lot of vocabulary, and in Germany I lived in a shared flat (WG) with two Colombians, so I got to practice a bit.

Feeling crushed

I had an interview for a position I really, really wanted, and I know I didn't do my best in it. Today I found out I ranked 2nd for the spot and I'm now on the waitlist. It completely wrecked my day.

I'm not sure what my actual odds are of the first-ranked candidate turning it down and the spot opening up to me. Anyway, just needed to get this out somewhere.

is 27K a good stipend for Clemson?

Hello everyone, I have been admitted for Ph.D. at Clemson fro Spring/27. My Professor offered me a stipend of 27k for the first year and full tuition coverage. I am from Latin America as the living costs here are quite okay I would really appreciate it if someone could say if it is affordable to live in the area with this amount of money. And, does this stipend increase as the year goes on?

Thank you all in advance!!

Nervous about my DET score

I just finished my Duolingo English Test and I'm anxious about the result. I need a 115, and on every practice test on the official site I was scoring 115-125 on average, but the actual test felt noticeably harder than the practice ones and I left 2-3 words incomplete on some items, I marked at least one word as true when it should have been false, my writing was not so "fancy" I used simple concepts and words and the final speaking prompt was on a topic I wasn't familiar with so my answer came out a bit disorganized. Has anyone had a similar experience where the real test felt harder than the practice tests but still scored in the expected range?
