AI is ruining the creative industry. Taking jobs, just spitting out regurgitated, unoriginal SLOP and discouraging people from ACTUALLY BEING CREATIVE. And a lot of people are OKAY WITH THIS.
It's not okay. It is an absolute INSULT to artists and writers and other creative individuals who pour their time and their hearts into their craft only to be UPSTAGED by some glorified copy-paste plagiarism program.
And I know some people are like, "Well, I can't draw or write and I still wanna make stuff and AI is just easier and way more convenient-" BITCH, PLEASE. PICK. UP. A. PENCIL. IT IS NOT THAT HARD. ITS HOW EVERY OTHER GREAT, AUTHENTIC ARTIST STARTED. And if you absolutely refuse to do that, COMMISSION A REAL ARTIST. SOME OF US WILL TAKE REQUESTS FOR FREE, THAT'S HOW DESPERATE WE ARE RIGHT NOW. I would rather have a crayon drawing done by a five year old hung on my wall than anything generated by an AI program.
And to everyone calling themselves AI "artists", NO, YOU'RE FUCKING NOT. YOU ARE TELLING SOMETHING ELSE WHAT TO MAKE FOR YOU, AND THAT SOMETHING ELSE JUST GOES AND MUTILATES OTHER ARTISTS WORK AND STICKS IT TOGETHER IN AN ATTEMPT TO PASS IT OFF AS "ORIGINAL". YOU ARE NOT. A. REAL. ARTIST.
It's gotten to the point where genuinely talented people have been accused of using AI WHEN THEY DIDN'T, JUST BECAUSE THEIR ARTWORK IS REALLY GOOD. Those people spend HOURS AND HOURS on their work, making it absolutely perfect, just for people to think ChatGPT made it. It is getting harder and harder to tell what's real and what isn't, and it is SO INFURIATING TO ME. My little brother got accused of using AI for an essay he wrote, which, mind you, he did ENTIRELY BY HIMSELF. It is CLEAR AND CONCISE AND USES UNIQUE WORDS BECAUSE HE SPENT TIME ON IT, PROOFREADING AND DOING RESEARCH. HE IS SMART AND LIKES LEARNING AND PUTTING TIME INTO HIS ASSIGNMENTS. It's already causing so many problems - Where does it end?!?!
More than infuriating, it's scary. I fear that creative industries will be dominated by generative AI, making artistic skill essentially obsolete. And if AI can take over that, it can take over other things. How long do you think it'll take AI to learn how to do every job in existence and humanity becomes stagnant? We may not be looking at an apocalypse, but more realistically, a world where no one does anything, doesn't grow or learn or create, and that is no way to live. That is not being ALIVE.
Don't get me wrong. AI is a powerful tool. One that could improve our lives in so many ways. It can catch health problems that doctors may overlook. It can provide information ahead of time that can save lives. It can help us. But it NEEDS SAFEGUARDS. The people programming it and the people using it NEED TO BE MORE AWARE, AND ACTUALLY CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES. AI used ethically can be a game changer. AI used otherwise will destroy us.
AI can be used for many things. But it should NEVER, EVER, EVER SERVE AS A REPLACEMENT FOR HUMAN CREATIVITY.

I'm gonna be real, I don't fully even know who Hatsune Miku is, but I like her hair and I had fun with this piece and I think it looks hilarious.

This is honestly kind of a vent post, apologies for that.
Earlier this week I posted about one of our Cories, Shao Shao, being sick. I believe it was a combination of the high nitrates in the water and a bacterial infection.
I've been super sick the past couple of weeks and still am, but I still tried to do everything I could for him - I quarantined him, I changed the water and checked the parameters regularly to make sure the nitrates had gone down, I went to the pet store and got some antibiotics along with some nitrate-neutralizing solution, but I didnt even really get the chance to use either of those. I was checking on him every few hours since Sunday and right before I went to bed last night, he wasn't doing great, but he was upright and breathing pretty well, if lethargic. And then this morning, I went to check on him and he was on his side, dead.
I feel absolutely horrible. I feel like there's so much more I could've done that I realistically probably couldn't have without making myself sicker, but I still could have done it. And then maybe Shao Shao would still be alive. The nitrate levels in the tank were probably off for a while because of how unwell I've been this year and I haven't been able to take care of the tank as well as I should have, even with my brother's help. It's my fault Shao Shao got sick, it's my fault that he didn't get better, it's my fault he died. No excuses, no two ways about it.
I don't know if I should be taking care of anymore fish after this, for a lot of different reasons. But we still have one left, and I still want to try my absolute hardest to make sure he has the best life. I would consider surrendering him but I don't know anyone else in my area who would be able to take him and the LFS went out of business months ago.
Shao Shao was only a little over two years old. He had so much life and spunk and personality and now he's gone because of me. I feel awful.
Sorry this is such a downer post. It might seem silly to grieve for a fish but he was such a fun little dude.
Okay. I posted a couple days ago about one of my Cories being sick and the nitrate levels in our fish tank turning out to be utterly atrocious. Ive been doing frequent water changes in our main tank and the quarantine container I have our sick Cory, Shao Shao, in, and keeping a close eye on him. He's maybe a little more energetic now, but hes still fairly lethargic and his whiskers are pretty thin - this morning I noticed his front fins looking very thin, kind of clamped and just... Wrong. I've managed to get the nitrate levels down a significant amount, but I haven't been able to get it down to zero on account of our tap water being.... Ah, questionable, when it comes to nitrates.......
I haven't been to the pet store yet on account of being ill, but I want to try and go sometime this afternoon. A lot of y'all recommended floating plants as a way to greatly reduce nitrates, but I also want to get some medicine for Shao Shao since he hasn't gotten a whole lot better and I'm worried about his whiskers and fins. We have some medicine for fish fins but it's a very small amount and I don't know if it'll help.
What medicine would be best for him? Are there any other ways I can try to help him? I feel so bad for him.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, Shao Shao's tankmate is fine. Bright-eyed, bushy-whiskered, energetic, bullying the snails every chance he gets. So I have reason to suspect that what Shao Shao is dealing with is a combo of the nitrate levels and maybe a bacterial infection or something.

This is entirely on me. I haven't been able to do regular water changes because I've been ill. I set some water out to dechlorinate to switch out at least a third of the tank water right away. I might still decide to move Shao Shao to a quarantine tank so he can breathe a little easier and fast for a bit, because I think this is probably a combination of the nitrate and a swim bladder issue.
Ph is also a bit high, but all other parameters were normal. Sir Jack Mustache Esquire is seemingly unaffected. I WILL still be cleaning the tank and changing the water.
Is there anything else I can do to help lower the nitrate levels? Is there anything else I could do for Shao Shao to help him feel better?

I think this one is Shao Shao. I came downstairs to feed the Cories and check up on em when I noticed this one acting oddly. He moved around a little bit and ate some stuff but it seems like he's unable to swim upwards and is just overall kind of lethargic. He's breathing a bit fast too, and his whiskers look really thin.
The poor little guy just swims around for a little bit and then just flops down somewhere. He's not in the position he was in the video anymore, he's more upright, but he still just looks sick. I feel so bad for him.
Admittedly, I myself have been really sick the past couple months and haven't been able to clean the tank for a while and I think thats probably why he's unwell. I feel awful.
I havent taken the water parameters yet, I will in just a second. Im not entirely sure what's wrong with him and I just really could use some help. I've been sitting here with them since I came downstairs about forty minutes ago. I have some medicines but I'm not sure which ones would actually be if use here.
His roommate seems fine, which is of some relief. Should I quarantine him? I'm thinking about moving him just for the sake of putting him in shallower water so he can get to the surface a little easier to breathe.
I've never been the best at treating fish sickness and there's not much I can do when I myself am this sick and I just feel horrible.

Asking because I know y'all have at least one story under this category. I have heard so many hilarious stories from this subreddit, so here's a space where you can share em all with everyone!!
A few funny stories of my own, once I freaked out my first catfish, Kitten, so badly that he ended up swimming straight into one of the little castle decorations we had in our tank. He proceeded to then swim in little circles for the next couple of minutes while another one of our catfish, Little Whiskers, appeared to be laughing at him.
Another one, somehow one of our current catfish managed to get a detached piece of one of the plants in our tank stuck over his face and eyes, and he proceeded to zoom around in a panic until he managed to shake it loose. He wasn't tangled up in it or anything, it just kind of fell onto him, and he couldn't really figure out how to get it off.
The most astounding thing I like to share with people about my catfish are when they try to become astronauts (ie jump out of the water). This usually only happens when they're spooked or something and are just like, "ABANDON SHIP YALL!!" I've only had a few Cories actually jump and they've all been stopped by the tank lid. Don't worry, they're all fine. I think.
