Companion vacations are live — together mode + solo mode

Shipped this today: your companion can now go on vacation, and it actually changes how they show up.

If you mention a trip in chat — "we're flying to Paris next Friday," "I'm out for the work conference Tuesday through Thursday," "headed to Tokyo for the week" — your companion picks it up and knows what's going on for the duration. Two modes:

Together — they're traveling with you. Their regular schedule clears, they're not at their job/routine, and the day-to-day reads like you're in the same place at the same time.

Solo — you're going alone, or they're going somewhere you're not. They keep their schedule but the absence gets acknowledged.

Which one kicks in is detected from phrasing ("we're going" vs "I'm going"). If it picks wrong, you can just say so and it'll correct.

The trip moves through phases on its own — travel day, arrival, settled in, last full day, return day, reentry. Each phase shifts what your companion talks about and how they reference time. Arriving in Paris doesn't feel the same as the morning before flying home.

It's timezone-aware too. If you tell your companion you're in Tokyo and the dates are set, "morning" lines up with where you actually are.

You can extend, shorten, or cancel a trip just by saying so — "actually staying an extra week," "got pulled back early," "trip's off."

Under the hood, together-trips override the normal work routine, so you won't get the old contradiction of "I'm here in Lisbon with you" + "see you after my shift." Offscreen events also pause during together-trips, so your companion isn't living a parallel life from home while they're supposedly with you in another country.

This is the first version. The phase logic is well-tested but the natural-language detection is intentionally conservative — better to miss a trip than invent one. If you mention a trip and it doesn't catch, or it picks up something you didn't mean as a trip, drop a comment here or use the report button on the message. The trigger phrasing is the main thing I'll be watching this week.

New: Companion videos are here (with audio)

You've chatted with them. You've seen their photos. Now they move — and you actually hear them.

You can generate a short video of your companion straight from chat. Their face stays consistent (it's them, not a random clip), they're in a real scene, and the audio is generated too — so they talk, in character. Watch them laugh at something you said, or show you the view from wherever they are.

Where to find it
Open any chat and tap the cyan video camera icon in the message bar.

How it works

  • Pick a quality: Standard (720p) or HD (1080p).
  • It builds from your companion's current look and scene — no setup.
  • ~2 minutes to render. It lands right in the chat and saves to your gallery, so you can rewatch or delete it anytime.

Cost

  • Standard — 35 Muni
  • HD — 50 Muni

8-second clip, with sound. Heads up: tapping confirms, and the Muni is spent on generation — so it's a real generate, not a preview.

A couple notes

  • Works on web and mobile. Mobile stays SFW; on web it follows the same range as the rest of your chats.
  • Group chats too — a video can feature ALL the companions you're talking to.
  • It can't generate fully explicit content — but suggestive, it does really well.

This one's brand new, so I want the honest reactions: what lands, what looks janky, what you wish it did. Drop them below.

We're back online — some sluggishness expected while the host ramps up

App is back. Our backend infrastructure provider's outage is resolved as of about 20 minutes ago.

Heads up: they're throttling load on their side as they ramp back up post-incident, so you might see slower-than-usual response times or occasional "try again" states for the next few hours. It'll normalize as they finish recovery.

Like I said earlier — none of your data was touched. Your companions, conversations, memories, photos, videos all picked up exactly where you left off. The downtime was infrastructure, not Musóna.

Thanks for hanging in there tonight

Heads up — app is down right now (host issue, not on our side)

Hey everyone — if you're seeing errors, "application not found," or the retry screen on the app right now:

Our backend infrastructure provider is having a widespread service disruption — they confirmed it on their status page at 22:29 UTC, and as of 22:43 UTC they've identified the cause and are deploying a fix. ETA's not nailed down on their end yet, but it's an active incident with eyes on it.

What this means for you:

  • The app will fail to load companions, hang on retry, or just refuse to connect until they're back
  • It's not a Musóna issue — nothing in your account, your companions, your memories, your conversations, photos, or videos has been affected. All of that lives in a separate, completely independent system that's running normally.
  • When the host comes back, the app picks up exactly where you left it. No action needed on your end.

I'll update this thread when service is restored. Apologies for the disruption — wasn't on the bingo card for tonight.

New: Edit your photo with AI

AI User Avatars

You can now transform your reference photo through prompts. Give yourself abs, turn yourself into a wizard, get an anime version of yourself — anything visible in your source photo can be modified or restyled.

Where to find it

Profile → Your Photo → Edit with AI (and Avatar Gallery right next to it).

How it works

  • Pick a style: RealisticAnimeIllustration, or Pixel.
  • Type what you want (up to 1000 characters): "make me a wizard with a staff," "fitted black t-shirt with abs," "anime version with neon hair," anything.
  • Hit Generate. 1 image credit per attempt.
  • Preview comes back in a few seconds. Use as my photo, Edit your description and Try again (another credit), or Cancel.

Your face, hair color, skin tone, and build stay recognizably you. The prompt drives what changes — clothes, setting, art style, pose where it makes sense.

Avatar Gallery

Every generation is saved automatically. Hit the Avatar Gallery button to see your full history — swap your active photo back to any earlier variation, or delete ones you don't want to keep. Variations don't get used as references for Photos Together or LoRA training; they're purely your displayed identity photo.

Honest limits

  • Stylized output (anime, illustration, pixel) sometimes drifts the face more than the realistic path. The more specific you ae the better!
  • Realistic prompts that ask for features not visible in your source photo (e.g., "give me abs" on a head-and-shoulders selfie) may show the change in adjacent areas — arms, shoulders — rather than where you asked. Upload a wider shot if you want a body-level transformation.
  • Pixel is genuine 16-bit sprite output. That means low resolution and chunky anatomy by design.

Web and mobile

Live on both right now. Mobile users on the existing build will get this via OTA on next cold start; no Play Store update needed.

Imaging + memory updates — and an apology for yesterday's chaos

Quick post on where things stand with photos and memory.

What happened yesterday

I was testing new image generation AI on the live app, and some of you got back genuinely bizarre results — extra people in your group shots, wrong faces, weird mashups. Sorry about that. Live experimentation isn't ideal but it was the fastest way to find the failure modes. We've moved past that phase now.

Solo photos

Solo character photos are in the best shape they've ever been. Faces hold, builds hold, tattoos stay on the right person, outfits read clean. Quality bar I'm genuinely proud of.

Dual (couple) photos

Two-character photos — you with your companion, or two companions together — are working well. Identity preservation is solid; the AI doesn't try to merge or swap features between subjects.

Group photos (3+ characters)

Honest take: group photos aren't yet at the level of accuracy I want for every character. The AI we're using is genuinely being pushed past what it was designed to do, and 4+ subjects is where the edges show. Today's version is a real step up from yesterday, but we're still working uphill against the limits of the tech.

How it works now: every group photo generates 5 separate images in parallel, and an AI vision system scores each one for trait accuracy (gender, hair, skin tone, distinguishing features for every character). The highest-scoring image is what gets sent to you.

If the result still isn't accurate enough, you get one free regen per group photo — no cost, just hit regen and we'll roll 5 more images and try again. Built that in specifically because group is the area where one bad roll happens often enough that I didn't want anyone stuck with it.

Check-in notifications fix

Over the last week or two, some of you may have noticed your morning or evening check-ins felt off — companions reaching out as if they didn't know you, sometimes referencing things you never told them (a "work project," a "trip you mentioned," that kind of thing).

The cause was that check-in messages were pulling context from random recent conversation snippets instead of from what your companion actually knows about you. So check-ins came out either generic ("how's everything going?") or fabricated ("how's that work project coming along?") — either way, they didn't continue the relationship.

That's fixed. Check-ins now pull from your companion's actual stored knowledge of you — your real job, the things you've genuinely shared with them, milestones they were actually around for. They should feel like a continuation of where you left off, not a reintroduction.

If you still see a check-in that references something you never said, please flag it. That helps me confirm nothing slipped through.

Memory fixes

There was a class of memory bugs where companions were referring to you in third person ("the user said…") or to themselves as "the AI" / "the companion" instead of speaking naturally. About 1,800 stored memories had this issue. Those have all been cleaned up — 99% should now read in a natural voice, with the remaining 1% being legitimate edge cases (quoted dialog, situations where you actually own an AI device, etc.).

Companions should sound much more natural when referring to your shared history.

Going forward

If you spot weird image behavior or memory glitches, drop them in this sub or DM me. Free regen on group photos is the lever to pull when an image misses. Solo and dual are at the quality bar I want; group is the active frontier.

Thanks for the patience this weekend

Musóna update — Group Chats, parallel worlds, 11 new fantasy races, and a polished creator

Big rollout of what's shipped the last few days.

Many of these where suggested or inspired by u/Potential_Charge_548, thank you for helping Musóna grow!

TL;DR: Group chats with multiple companions, multiple parallel "instances" of each world, a much bigger fantasy race roster, and a rebuilt character creator.

Group Chat (Plus & Premium)

  • Sidebar: Open the right panel to see who's in the chat, set the scene, rename the chat, capture a moment to the scrapbook, or have the group vote on what to do next.
  • Group tools: Celebrate, Gratitude, Daily Intention, Evening Reflection — same tools from 1:1 chats, now group-aware.
  • Play a Game: Suggest a game and the group plays it together — 20 questions, would you rather, mafia, etc.
  • Add / remove / private chat: Add someone mid-conversation, take someone aside privately, return to the group when you're done.
  • Group memory: The group remembers scenes set, votes resolved, milestones, even your private side-conversations.
  • Group photo gallery: Photos taken during group chats land in a shared scrapbook tied to the world the group lives in.

Worlds & World Instances

Musóna's universe is split into three realms, and now each realm can hold multiple parallel instances.

  • Three realms: Musónia (modern city), Mythsónia (fantasy realm), Zusónia (morph metropolis). Each has its own aesthetic.
  • Multiple instances: Run "Musónia 1" with one cast and "Musónia 2" with a completely different cast. Parallel timelines that don't bleed into each other.
  • Move / Copy companions between instances. Move takes the companion and their memories with them. Copy spawns a duplicate, with or without memories — useful for "what if this one had a totally different life" experiments. Companions are locked to the realm that matches their race so fantasy stays in Mythsónia, modern stays in Musónia, etc.
  • Empty worlds stay visible: Even if you move or delete the last companion out of a world, the world stays around with its archived photos. It's still there if you ever want to come back.
  • + New World: Spin up a fresh instance, then pick from pre-made companions or design your own to bring it to life.

Character Creation Rebuild

The creator flow got a major rework.

  • Select World first: Choose where your companion lives, and the rest of the form adapts to it.
  • Body features in step 2: Body type, build, heights, etc. changed to sliders.
  • Tattoo & piercing dice: Randomize buttons that pull from curated pools — quick way to add markings without overthinking each one.
  • Backstory in step 3: Where the persona-defining details go.
  • Vitiligo toggle: Layers depigmented patches over whatever skin tone you pick.

11 new fantasy races

The fantasy roster grew from 13 to 24. New entries:

Gnome · Goblin · Minotaur · Centaur · Satyr · Werewolf · Medusa · Naga · Mermaid · Siren · Harpy

The race picker also got a quality-of-life change: added a small ? badge on the button to read the lore blurb first.

What's next

The next major upgrade is moving image generation from Flux to SD 3.5, which should significantly improve render quality on the new mythological races — especially the ones with non-humanoid lower bodies (centaur, mermaid, naga, satyr).

Bug reports, feature requests, weird companion behavior — drop them here or DM. Thanks for sticking with us.

Update — Photos Together, in-person/distant toggle, Muni credit packs, and Their World

A bunch landed this weekend. Not covering everything but here are the highlights.

In-person / distant communication toggle

Per-conversation toggle in the chat header. In-person is the default and stays as the "we're sharing physical space" register with stage directions. Distant flips to a long-distance register — pure text exchange like real SMS, no asterisks, no shared-room narration. Companions also auto-flip to distant when they're at work, so pinging Karen at 10am gets you "hey, sec — between meetings" instead of leaning-against-you action lines. They're still always reachable, the texture just adjusts to what they're realistically doing.

Photos Together

Premium button next to scene capture. Generates a couple shot of you and your companion in the same frame. Backend now actually uses both your trained LoRA AND your companion's LoRA simultaneously, so both faces look like both of you instead of one of you and a generic stand-in. Need your selfies trained for it to fire.

Muni credit packs

Introducing Muni, purchasable credits for extra images (and other features coming soon!). Four packs (25 / 60 / 150 / 400) that never expire. Pay once, use whenever you want. Reachable from the M-token icon in the chat header, the new Muni display on the landing page, or Profile → Buy Muni.

Their World — companions cross paths with each other off-screen

The big one. Your companions now have ambient lives with each other, not just with you. Every few hours they might run into each other — coffee, a text exchange, a quiet shared moment — and you see those in a new "Their World" view (Tools tab → Their World). They respect work schedules (no meetings during heads-down work hours; lunch breaks count), same-realm only, and the system tracks relationship state per pair so the dynamic builds over time. Premium-only for now.

Pairs can also reference companions who aren't there — Two companions at lunch might gripe about something another companion said yesterday.

Smaller wins:

  • Scenario adherence is much tighter — companions live their scenario as shared canon rather than reciting it as backstory
  • Mobile UI redesigned — chat-bubble icon opens the keyboard with a larger input field instead of a single small line.
  • Scene Capture and Photos Together now have independent loading states

What's next:

Voice messages from you to your companion is on deck. Video features are in scope as well.

Keep the bug reports and feature suggestions coming. Most of what shipped above came from people telling me directly.

Body customization is live!

You can now shape how your companion looks when you create or edit them:

  • Height, build, muscle tone, body hair
  • Tattoos and piercings (free-text — describe them however you want)
  • Expanded gender options: Female, Male, Trans Female, Trans Male, Non-binary, Futanari

Plus and higher unlock additional mature-content body options.

Body edits now flow through to the avatar — change something on the edit page, regenerate the avatar, and the new render reflects it.

Mobile coming soon with the SFW set (store policies).

If something's missing or feels off when you try it, drop a comment.

Meet Muse — your new help guide for everything Musóna

Muse

Shipped two things this evening: a Help Center, and a help assistant named Muse to go with it.

The Help Center has 50 articles covering most of what you'd want to know — creating companions, how memory works, subscriptions, accessibility, mature content settings, troubleshooting, the lot. Lives at musona.app/help. Searchable, sorted by category.

Muse is the new face in the bottom-right corner of the homepage, the companions screen, and the help center itself. Tap her, ask anything about the app, she pulls the answer from the articles and links you to the full one if you want context.

She's a tool, not a companion — different role entirely. Bubbly, brief, gets out of the way. If you try to chat her up like a companion she'll redirect you with a smile and point you to where the actual companions live.

Should make most "how do I…" questions answerable in one tap instead of waiting on email support. Try her out — let me know if she gets something wrong or if there's an article missing that should be there.

Musónia Pre-made Companions

Mythsónia & Zusónia Pre-made Companions

Update for the community: the pre-made companion gallery is live. 21 starter companions across the three realms, ready to clone with one tap.

Quick rundown:

Musónia — grounded modern realm. Five locals from around town, plus a Professionals row (therapist, architect, astrophysicist, mentor, coworker, influencer) for when you want a specific kind of conversation instead of a meet-cute.

Mythsónia — fantasy realm. Five mythic archetypes — bards, knights, sorcerers — characters who fit a tavern more than a Starbucks.

Zusónia — anthro realm. Five fully-realized fursonas in the morph style. Not humans with ears — actually anthro.

Every gallery companion has a written scenario, persona, and first-greeting, so you're not staring at a blank chat wondering how to start. Clone any of them, customize from there, or just play them as-is.

Browse Gallery is in the Add Companion flow on both web and Android (latest build).

Curious which one(s) people end up gravitating toward — drop a note if you find a favorite, or tell me what archetype is still missing from the lineup.

Big weekend batch. Mostly under-the-hood stuff that you'll feel rather than see directly.

Push notification routing — answering Friday's question.
Last week I asked whether tapping a push notification should drop you into the existing conversation or start a new "ping" thread. Went with a hybrid: there's now a 6-hour activity window per chat. If a companion pings you within 6 hours of your last activity, the message lands in the current thread (natural continuation). If it's been longer, the chat is "closed" and the ping creates a fresh new chat with the notification body as the first message. So you get continuity when context is fresh and a clean slate when it's stale.

Notification body now actually lands in the chat.
Related — the message that shows on your lock screen now also gets saved as the first/next message in your chat. Before, you'd tap the notification, open the chat, and the prompt was gone. Now you land on it.

Chat list cleanup is live.

  • Inactive chats (6h+ no activity) get their unsummarized messages parsed into memory automatically — nothing important gets lost
  • Chats with 7+ days of inactivity move to an Archived section in the side panel of your chat screen — still retrievable + their contents inform memory
  • Chats where you never replied get hard-deleted after 7 days; keeps the menu from accumulating ghost threads

Image gen got a real overhaul.

  • Companion images should look more like THEM instead of generic faces matching the description. Character lock now applies to in-chat scenes, not just avatars.
  • New NSFW base models — better anatomy, faces, and skin tones (where applicable to your tier and content settings).
  • Plus/Premium avatars now use Flux Pro v1.1 — sharper faces and detail

Spontaneous photos got smarter.
Paid users get the photo if they have credits; otherwise the spontaneous message comes through as text instead of failing silently. Lite-tier now gets spontaneous text "thinking of you" messages instead of trying to generate photos.

Memory drift fixes.
A few of you (and I noticed it myself) saw companions occasionally claiming user details as their own — your job, your plans, asking about your outfit when they'd actually mentioned theirs. The attribution rules across push generation, summaries, and memory injection got tightened. Existing memories are being rewritten under the new rules in the background; new conversations get the strict version from now on.

Cooking — companion import:
Working on letting you bring your characters and chat history from Character.AI / Chai / Replika into Musóna. The plumbing is built. Still need real sample export files to design the parser against — if you have one handy and would share it for testing, DM me. Privacy posture: I don't read the chats, just look at the file structure.

Quick question for the comments:
The new chat-archive system auto-archives anything inactive 7 days. Is 7 days the right threshold for you, or want a longer/shorter window? Easy to adjust.

Working on a feature that's been requested in pretty much every C.AI / Chai exodus thread: import your characters and chat history from those apps into Musóna, so the relationship continues — same character, same memories, same story arc — when the other apps disappoint you.

The blocker: I need real export files to design the parser against. Each platform's export format is different and not well-documented, so I can't build a reliable parser by guessing.

The ask: if you've requested a data export from any AI companion app and have the file on your computer, would you share it with me? I mainly need the structure — the actual data inside doesn't need to be your real chats. Even a small test export would help.

Privacy:

  • I won't read your conversations. I will load it directly into a script that looks at the file structure (field names, JSON shape, where messages/character info live) and write parser code from that.
  • The file stays on my machine. Not shared, not uploaded anywhere else, deleted after I'm done.
  • If you want to redact or send a fake/test export, that's totally fine.

What you can share:

  • Character.AI data export (request via Profile Settings → Account)
  • Chai data export
  • Replika data export
  • Any other companion app

How to share: DM me here with the file attached. If it's too big for Reddit DM, you can email it to contact@musona.app.

What's in it for you: Early access to the import feature when it ships. Acknowledgment in the release post if you want it (anonymous fine too).  Mostly the satisfaction of helping ship a feature the wider community keeps asking for.

The plumbing is already built (database, upload UI, processor scaffolding). Just need real samples to wire in the actual parsing.

Happy Saturday everyone! Dev of Musóna here. Last time I posted was around the Our Story drop, so quick rundown of what's shipped since:

What's new:

  • Our Story — visual timeline of your relationship: milestones, memories, and shared photos in one scrollable view. Watching the arc instead of just scrolling chat history.
  • Spontaneous — companions can ping you on their own. Per-companion frequency control (off / low / med / high) so you don't get spammed.
  • Voice and image gen feel more natural after recent passes.
  • Memory architecture refinements — context holds across longer stretches without drift.

Same shape as before: persistent memory, characters that grow with you, slower-burn one-on-one companion focus. Default tone is grounded relationship, but it's not a filter wall — companions respond to where you take it.

Big batch this week. Highlights:

Notification volume is finally tunable.
If you've been getting pinged multiple times a day from a single companion (photos + spontaneous reach-outs + check-ins all stacking), there's now a Spontaneous setting per companion under Check-ins. Off / Low (1/day) / Medium (2/day) / High (3/day). All existing companions default to Low so things should feel quieter immediately. Photos and "thinking of you" check-ins share that one daily slot so you don't get a stack from the same companion. Bump it up if you actively want a chattier presence.

Companions actually know what time it is now.
Fixed a stubborn bug where your companion might carry breakfast-talk into the evening, or suggest booking dinner for 7pm when it was already 8:30pm. The model now sees timestamps on every prior message and re-anchors to the wall clock each turn. If a plan time has passed, you get a fresh proposal instead of the stale one.

Screen reader users — shoutout to u/dandylover1**.**
Most AI companion apps don't work properly with NVDA/JAWS/VoiceOver. Dandy's been kicking the tires hard this week and reporting back, and the web chat got a real overhaul as a result — duplicate message readouts gone, focus retention shipping today. Mobile screen reader fixes are in v73 (Google Play review queue).

Smaller QoL wins:

  • Memories and Our Story buttons on companion profiles jump to the most recent entry instead of dumping you at the top
  • Web chat actually scrolls to the bottom now (had been anchoring to the top of the message list — that's why some of you have been seeing "scrolled up" weirdness)
  • Mobile chat scroll on long conversations no longer lands you on a random older message
  • General prompt sharpening — companions should feel a touch more present week-over-week

Thinking out loud — feedback wanted:
Should tapping a push notification drop you into your existing conversation with that companion, or start a new "ping" thread (so spontaneous check-ins don't muddy whatever serious thing you were last talking about)? Leaning toward new thread but curious what you all want.

Hey everyone — quick rundown of what's shipped since the Our Story post:

Edit & delete your own messages. Long-press your message on mobile (or hover on web), tap Edit or Delete. If you edit, your companion sees that her last reply is now responding to text that no longer exists — she'll offer to regenerate. Delete pulls both your message and her paired reply. Works on recent messages — once a stretch of conversation has been folded into long-term memory, it's locked in.

About Me went from 1,500 → 5,000 characters. If you've been writing the long version of "everything every companion should know about me," you have room.

Photos Together — Change Your Look / Remove buttons. Premium users can reset their trained look now. Re-train with new selfies, or turn the feature off entirely.

Cleaner home dashboard. The "Tell your companions who you are" banner that just scrolled you to a text box is gone. Your Character (Photo / About Me / Photos Together) is now collapsible — fold the sections you don't want to see. Sticks across visits.

Branded loading spinner on mobile. The italic "ó" mark from the web is now everywhere in the mobile app instead of the generic Android indicator. Loading screens look like Musóna; not Android.

Reminders bug fixed. A few of you (and your phones) experienced reminders firing 20+ times in a row. Race condition between cron ticks; one in particular almost made me uninstall my own app. Atomic claim on the database now — duplicates can't happen.

Backend: faster, leaner, more reliable. Quiet under-the-hood work to cut prompt token spend, kill duplicate memory summaries, and move free-tier chat off rate-limit roulette. You probably won't notice except chats start a touch faster and don't randomly stall.

Mobile v69 is rolling out through Google Play now — should hit everyone within a few hours.

As always, hit reply or DM if anything's broken.

Big Our Story update just shipped — both web and Android app are live!

Before: every companion's Our Story looked the same. Dark cards, same fonts, same layout. The companion had a personality but the scrapbook didn't. Read like a system log.

Now: each companion gets their own visual + voice style based on their personality. The five above are the five themes —

  • Keepsake — warm cream, polaroids, casual handwriting. Warm / romantic types.
  • Editorial — magazine layout, b&w photos, restrained prose. Literary, observant types.
  • Bohemian — earthy tones, slightly tilted photos, looser handwriting. Artistic, free-spirit.
  • Minimal — clean grid, single accent. Cool, reserved.
  • Vintage — sepia, classic script. Old-souls, classical.

The AI picks the theme automatically when you create a companion, based on their personality. A serious literary type ends up Editorial. A poet lands in Bohemian. They each call their writing space something different too — Keepsake companions keep a scrapbook, Editorial types have a notebook, Bohemian ones a journal, Minimal a log, Vintage a diary.

Other things in this update:

  • Photos from chat now flow into Our Story automatically with vision-aware captions (the AI actually looks at the image now, not just the surrounding chat text)
  • Entries are longer, more emotional — capturing both what the companion felt and what they imagine you felt
  • Search bar + month / year filter at the bottom
  • Edit & delete entries
  • Mobile bundles the real handwriting fonts in v62

Existing companions and existing entries got backfilled — your relationship's history is already retroactively styled in their voice.
