I’m obsessed with “oh well” and now I’m trying to figure out what this sound? subgenre? vibe? is
I absolutely love ariana grande’s new song “oh well” I love the beat and the layered vocals and whatever that sound is in the intro?? It’s difficult for me to articulate what I like so much because I’m not super well-versed in different subgenres and things. It’s like a sort of garagepop beat with super intricate production. does anyone get what i’m talking about when i describe this sound?
some music it reminds me of in a way are “cool blue” by the japanese house, “ditto” by newjeans, all of “to hell with it” by pinkpantheress, and obviously imogen heap as well. I love the super layered almost synthy sound with lots of really interesting production.
I’ve been searching through threads and listening to a few songs from Yaz, Yazida, Piri, Kenya Grace, and Alex Sloane, but nothing’s quite scratching that itch.
I hope someone can throw in their opinion, tell me if there’s a name (or names) for this sound, or even suggest any music that has a similar vibe. I’m not just looking for recs tho, I genuinely wanna know what or if this kind of music has a name. when i look it up, i see words like garagepop, bedroom pop, dreampop, but I genuinely cannot distinguish between any of these and haven’t found anything that’s truly similar.
