Why is the Philippines' independence from US occupation similar to the US Independence from the British, which is July 4?

So while talking to a friend, he asked me a question that never crossed my mind: Why is it that the Philippines' and the US's Independence Day are both on July 4? Was there something behind it, or just a sheer coincidence?

For context, two SK chairman are accused of corruption. Then Remulla being a clout chaser he is, conduct a press conference and expressed his support for abolishing SK if a “constitutional change” is to occur simply because corruption has reached SK level. Following that same logic, shouldn’t higher positions be abolish as well because that’s where corruption thrives?
