Aching hip

Anyone else have their hip ache after their knee replacement? Mine has been really bothersome the last day or so. I’ve had this happen when I sit (usually in the car) for too long. I’m confident that’s what’s causing the ache, but I’m really tired of it. Kept me up half the night last night. Could NOT find a comfortable position. I get up and walk around the house almost every hour. Might try talking a bit longer walk outside today and see if that helps. Might try the massage gun too.

Trying to be patient

I’m 10 days po from my second TKA and trying to be patient with myself. I’d really like to be walking better by now. I’m using a cane now instead of a walker, which is progress, but the knee still hurts for the first few steps (still on Percocet) and just doesn’t feel as stable as I’d like. I’m sure things will continue to improve, but would like to be off of pain meds and moving around better already. I’m very patient with other people, but apparently not so patient with myself.

PT still rough

One week after my second TKA and had my first outside PT today. Felt fine at the time. I didn’t push myself very hard but my knee and leg are aching something fierce tonight. I did accidentally push the pedal all the way around on the spin bike once. That may have caused the extra discomfort, I suppose. In any case, it’s been 6 months since my first knee - apparently that’s enough time to forget the pain and discomfort that comes with these fun activities. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Everyone keep on keeping on!

Matching pair (almost)

Once the incision heals, I’ll have a matching pair. Left TKA was 1 week ago today. Does that make it day 6 or day 7?? Swelling has gone down, no real bruising, range probably not quite as good as the R was, but I haven’t been pushing the daily exercises quite as much due to a bit more pain. I have my first outside PT tomorrow, so that will change. Able to shower and get around some of the time without a walker (I always have something within reach for stability if needed). Feeling pretty good overall. I woke up for no apparent reason this morning at 4am and realized I was totally comfortable. Felt amazing. Just laid there and basked in it until I had to get up to pee. lol. Hope everyone has at least a little better day than yesterday. ❤️💪☀️

Post op report

I found the post op notes from my surgeon for my surgery Tuesday. Interesting to read through it. One part that caught my eye was that I had severe degenerative changes in the meniscus. Also said, “full-thickness cartilage loss and osteophyte formation.” I knew there were some bone spurs, but didn’t know I had worn all the way through the cartridge. I’m surprised I wasn’t in more pain. Glad I didn’t wait another year to have it done though.

Oof. Rough day

Just had my 2nd knee done Tuesday afternoon. Pain meds wore off about an hour before I woke up this morning. Got relief pretty quickly, but still feel like I’ve been beat up. Home PT guy came and said my extension and flexi on are fine for now. Have a bit more swelling than on the first time so that probably doesn’t help.

My hubby has a saying, “Some days you’re the pidgin, some days you’re the statue.” Today I feel like I’m the statue and got crapped on. I’m sure the next days will improve, but feeling crappy tonight. Hoping I can sleep a bit. Had a couple of good chunks of sleep last night.

Ta Da - 2nd one done

Had to wait a couple of hours longer than scheduled, but I now have a matching set of metal knees. Surgery went smoothly and recovering fine. Only glitch was I couldn’t pee for 12 hours afterwards. I think it was because the spinal took a long time to wear off completely. Butt was still numb even though my legs were back to normal. Weird. The things you learn…lol.

2nd TKR tomorrow

Just got the call from the hospital - I need to be there to check in for my left knee replacement at 11:00am. I was really hoping for an earlier time. Right knee was 7:30am. Imma be starving by they’re done tomorrow! Oh well. Guess we can’t all be first on the schedule. Might stay up late tonight and sleep late just to kill some time. Good luck and best wishes to anyone else having surgery this week. 💪

Are we there yet??

I’m having my 2nd TKA on the 23rd. The time is dragging on. Can’t wait to get on with it but at the same time, I’m not looking forward to that recovery pain. Right now my knee (left) doesn’t hurt tons, but my right foot is in a lot of pain (hallux rigidous and Morton’s neuroma). I’m hoping all the pain meds and anti-inflammatories for my knee will help my foot settle down.

My hubby will be out of town (driving our daughter to another state for college) while I’m having surgery. Then the week after, he has a 3-day business trip. We thought we had the timing worked out better, but stuff happened. I have 2 adult sons at home (both high functioning autistic) and friends to help out, but I still worry a little bit. At least I’ve been through this once already. I know no 2 knees are the same, but it helps having an idea of what to expect.

Anyway, here’s hoping the next week and a half pass quickly so we can get on with the show.

Airport - easy!

Had my first TKA last December and having my other done in 2 weeks. Taking a 3 day trip to Washington DC from Utah. First time through TSA since the knee replacement. They had me take my unloader brace off, then just go through the X-ray instead of the metal detector. They don’t even bat an eye. Easy! It was actually harder to deal with my cpap. I had it in my carry-on and they wanted it separate. lol.

Dentistry before surgery?

I’ve heard confusing reports about dentistry before having a TKA. Is there any concern with getting my teeth cleaned a couple weeks before my knee replacement? No issues, just my usual 6 month cleaning.

Defaulting to meal #1

I know there a lot of hate for the new update. I’m not fond of change, but it’s inevitable. My beef is that every time I enter food, it’s defaulting to meal #1. Even if I click #3, it enters it on #1. I can change it manually, or I could just enter everything under meal #1. Most annoying. Is it a glitch, or am I missing something?

Had my right knee replaced in December. Just scheduled the left to be replaced in the middle of June. Here we go again…. Actually kind of relieved to have a date and don’t have to wonder if it needs to be done or not.
