Should the roots look like that after a transfer from soil?

The storage roots of my spider plant turn pretty brown and mushy (in the picture they even look a bit brifhter than irl), shedding and revealing a thin, white root in every one of them – and they smell kinda swampy. Is this normal because the plant is growing water roots, losing the soil roots or should I be concerned?

Edit: I'm using well water in a Kratky system if that is somewhat relevant.

How do I get rid of the rest of the dirt?

I already washed them multiple times in a bucket and sprayed it with a hose but nothing will work. I also cut the roots a bit to get foul/dirty spots away, but can't do that much more. Plant is a green lily.

My deathleaper

I'm happy with how it turned out, but I ain't quite sure about the base, I feel like it lacks something... do y'all have any advise on what to add/change? I'm thinking of possibly adding a glossy varnish on the "gooey" purple stuff...
