Why do certain people have to bring up parenthood every time someone says they love a pet?

I was walking my dog at the park near my house. I passed a bench with an old woman I know from my apartment complex (Cynthia) and a middle-aged couple (Mr and Mrs Babymaker).

Cynthia wanted to pet my dog and was talking about owning a similar breed when she was younger.

The conversation was good, until I said the dreaded words... "This dog is the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life and I love her to bits. Just don't let the cat know, because he thinks he's the only baby. "

Mrs Babymaker says, 🤢 just wait until you have a baby🤢

I asked her what she meant.

She said you don't really know what love is like until you have a baby of your own.

Her husband agreed with her.

I usually will just walk away from things, because there's no point in really saying anything to ignorant people.

But I also have a best friend who is constantly reminded of her infertility by people who say things like that.

So I told her that it was really rude to tell me that I won't know what love is until I have a baby. And that it was really sad that she felt that way. And that she shouldn't say things like that because it's really disrespectful to people, especially when you don't know if they want kids or not.

Cynthia then said that she didn't want kids and didn't like kids. I awkwardly gave her a high five and then went back into my apartment. I'm pretty sure the baby maker couple thought I was insane, because the husband said something like " okay we won't say anything next time. " In a really sarcastic tone
