Start undergrad research

How could I start REU as an incoming sophomore? For reference, I study Statistics and Information Science, as I am trying to gain experience/research within the data analysis realm. Does anybody have tips for a rising sophomore who is trying to get research? All help is appreciated!

I held back against my own father

Long story short, after an argument, my dad decided to become extremely aggressive and physically to the point where he would use his hand to choke me while using his other hand to pound my chest. I was taught to never fight back against my parents even if they hit me so when I was about to hit him back, I held back my strength and let him strangle me.

Im wondering if I had made the right decision, or I should’ve hit back. I don’t know though.

How do I get better an informational Interviews/Coffee Chats?

At the moment, I am struggling with having good coffee chats/informational interviews with people in a specific industry. I wish to improve in the future by having better chats in general and actually leaving a good impression. Do you guys have any ideas? Thank you very much!

No Freshman Internship but have a summer job that isnt related to the career I wish to pursue after graduation

For context, I am a rising sophomore studying statistics, and I wish to pursue a career in either finance/risk analysis or data analytics/data science. Currently, I do not have a freshman internship, but I do work as a part-time worker at a retail store that I have been working for the past 3 years. Will I be behind in experience when recruiting for future internships or full-time roles?

After being accepted into Cornell University (I’m still currently attending), my relatives which includes my uncles and my aunts started treating me differently. What I’ve been noticing lately is the amount of disrespect and hateful speech towards both me and my family, especially because of our family’s economic situation (we’re really low income while our relatives are way wealthier than us).

Furthermore, even my parents’ friends stopped respecting us simply because I was admitted to an elite university.

I seriously don’t understand it. Why are we given disrespect because I was admitted to an elite university? Has jealously have no bounds?

I wish to know if anyone else has the same situation, though.
