Frantz Fanon Popularity in Algeria

Asc everyone,
I recently started reading Toward The African Revolution by Franz Fanon, and so far I am loving it! I was wondering if he is well known by most people in Algeria today, considering he dedicated his life to anti colonial action.

Hope for the Federal System

Asc everyone,
Is there genuine hope with our current president expanding development outside of Mogadishu? It’s honestly shameful that our great country is not unified whatsoever, puntland constantly suspending relations with the capital, and too many autonomous regions having too much control. Is there a great possibility that a future president soon will be able to take action whether through diplomatic or military use and be able to unite our country? Because at the moment we genuinely resemble a confederacy and I am still young and I hate to see this and even hate more that there is a good possibility Somalia will not develop much further in the next decade. Would it be wrong for Somalias central government to take military action against autonomous regions and force them to create resolutions?

Hospital Somali architecture

Burtinle Hospital in northern Somalia approximately 7 degrees north of the equator. Having a hot desert climate with annual temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C
The local community played a pivotal role in the hospital's development. They contributed to establishing pathways, water pipes, and power connections. The design reflects the community's values, blending Islamic religious practices with modern healthcare priorities. Key facilities include emergency, outpatient, maternity, neonatal care, and operating theatre units, supported by laboratory, pharmacy, and administration spaces. A small inpatient ward completes the program, ensuring comprehensive care.
The hospital's layout draws inspiration from the courtyard typologies common in northern Somalia.
Four buildings, including three new ones and one refurbished structure, enclose a shaded central courtyard that serves as the heart of the facility. This courtyard fosters a healing environment, offering spaces for family gatherings, privacy, and relaxation.
The surrounding verandas and open waiting areas seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing airflow and creating a sense of safety and comfort.

Do Egyptians consider themselves African

Hello everyone,
I recently had a conversation with my mother and sister and we were discussing the World Cup and Egypt for brought up. I was talking about how I’m supporting all African countries including Egypt and my mother and sister both said that Egyptians wouldn’t consider themselves African and strictly identity as Arab. I asked about other North Africans and they both said that other North Africans would call themselves African but Egypt is the only country that wouldn’t call themselves African. So I am asking whether or not if majority of Egypt would proudly call themselves African? I do feel that Egypt is a place that has always been an ally and supporter of other African countries especially when every other African country was gaining independence; and Egypt was home to great African intellectualism and pan Africanism in the 20th century.

How is Ethiopia seen as the figurehead of Pan-Africanism

Asc Everyone,
Is Ethiopia strictly seen as a pan Africanist icon just due to them resisting colonialism? What I don’t understand is how so many west African countries created their flags by using the Ethiopian empire colors, or how the African Union gave their capital the headquarters of the African Union. The Ethiopian Empire is full of great history but their legacy is full of evil and suffering. They suppressed their neighbors and worked with European powers to create colonies specifically Somalia. They even went to the extent of attempting to absorb Djibouti and somaliland! What I don’t understand is how this history is not that well known among the African diaspora considering the fact it only takes 10 minutes of looking into Ethiopia. Do others feel this way or is there another reason why Ethiopia is the face of Pan Africanism?

Returning Home

Is returning to Somalia a goal most people have in this subreddit? Building skills and character in the Western world, then eventually going back to Somalia?

Federal State

Do you all believe it was beneficial or harmful that Somalia transformed from a central government to a federal government. I do believe that there is good when it comes to states having their own choice to do what’s best for its people but where does it end? How many times will puntland suspend relations with Mogadishu and what if that escalates? If Somalia wanted to develop intensely is federalism not a harm? Please let me know I love the idea of Somalia being a united and stable country with federal states resembling Spain as an example, but looking at the past with the Somali Republic vs now, I truly feel that Somalia would have recovered a lot better and quicker from the civil war if everyone banded together instead of multiple autonomous regions being created.

I.M Lewis

Asc everyone,

I recently began reading "A Modern History of the Somali," by I.M. Lewis. For those who have read any of his work, what do you think of him and his contributions to written Somali history?

Somalia Flag redesign

Could this work as a Somalia national flag? The blue is like the current blue representing the sea and sky, the white represents purity, Islam, and milk giving a node to nomadic lifestyle, the red is the blood of the Somali people that went through suffering during civil war, the soil, and the wreath is a frankincense wreath showing our history going back to the land of punt, and cultural importance of frankincense. And of course the star of unity showing all historical lands of Somali people. Would this work as a national flag of Somalia, please give your thoughts! This was visualization/image was created by ai, but when I get home I hope to make and edit my own flag, but this is what I have for now!
